Subsequent birth after placental abruption

Firstly, disclaimer… I completely understand that this isn’t an appropriate place to seek medical advice, but a useful place to seek others’ personal experiences.

I’m interested to know which mode of delivery others have chosen for subsequent births after previous placental abruptions and why this was chosen i.e. were you advised by a medic? I want the safest mode possible, but unfortunately consultant has told me that she is unable to advise on this (which I thought seemed odd but I guess may be due to liability issues??) I’m 34+1 atm and need to make a clear decision soon but can’t seem to find the answer as to which the safest option for those with previous placental abruption would be.I know there’s a 1 in 10 chance of this recurring so I’m very keen to pick safest possible option.

Nobody mentioned the possibility of a repeat to me.

I had a trial of labour the second time. I was really hoping for a normal delivery, but he was OP and never descended.

I had a planned c-section for second baby (after placental abruption with No 1). But it wasn’t because of the abruption, it was following other complications from that birth. it was advised by the consultant after having a big repair.

No one ever mentioned the likelihood of another abruption. As it happened, I went into labour before the planned section date, went into Delivery overnight, and they put me on the morning list for a section. It was technically an emergency c-section, but a walk in the park in comparison. It really helped me to know what to expect, after the unexpectedness of No 1, and I think that made it all easier.

Thanks so much for sharing. Interestingly, I was also not advised of the chance of recurrence, which is odd as they are the highest odds compared with other risk factors such as CS scar rupturing etc. I just happened to find the information during personal research. I’m glad you both had more positive experiences after first PA.

Hello I hope you don’t mind me messaging ? I lost my baby girl Hallie at 35 weeks a month ago on Saturday ! I had a huge placenta abruption and nearly died myself. I just wondered how you were getting on ?? Have you fallen pregnant again and how is your care with the NHS following a stillbirth? I am so sorry that happened to you xxx
