How did your labour start, symptoms etc??

I am 38+2 weeks. I already have a DD, 23 mths old (so it's not that long ago since I did this!!) but for some reason I am getting nervous about labour again. DD was pretty straight forward, despite being back to back (ouch!).

I think the thing is, with DD, she was exactly one week early, and I went to bed, was in semi-sleep when my waters broke, I thought I may have just wet myself. Contractions started about half an hour later, I had a big 'clearout' of poo and it was all very obvious and fairly quick, not to mention convenient, as I was at home and had no other children.

I am just getting a bit nervous cos I have a toddler now, at what I will do if it all kicks off and is as quick as before, DH is at work (about half hr away) and I have to try and amuse DD and not concern her in any way. I'm sure loads of people have had this concern. Just wondering how people's labours started???

Thanks

the chances are if you went early and were quick before, it will happen again.

Are you having a home birth? and are there any relatives that can be on call to come and entertain your DD?

I think most labours tend to kick off at night so chances are your DH will be around anyway.

I can't tell you about mine as first was induced and second was elective section

my first sign was backache...from the ones I remember!

I am really lucky cos we have 2 good neighbours, my sister is half an hr away, so Yes, I do have people to call on. I think I'm just getting anxious cos DD was early that it could be anytime now. DH works nights sometimes, he was at work on a night shift when I went into labour with DD. He is a paramedic so if he's 'on a job' I may not even be able to get hold of him for a while.

Not having a home birth (Group strep B so can't).

I really hope you're right and that I will be early and quick again!!!

Try not to worry too much, it's not good for your BP!
How much does your DD know about the baby? Can you explain that mummy will be in pain, but it's nothing to be scared about? would she understand that?

I hope things all happen smoothly for you. Good luck

I know, I feel better today.

DD is 23 months but I think she has a good understanding and that i could explain things to her briefly and she would understand.

Thanks for the luck!!
