Forceps and PPH first birth, what about second?

My first labour was spontaneous but lasted 24 hours with over 2 hours of pushing and a forceps delivery. I also had a major PPH. I am now pregnant with baby number 2 and I feel quite anxious about next time. Has anybody had a similar experience for their first labour and how did their second labour compare?

1st identical to yours but 48 hours. Had to have multiple stitches and blood transfusions.

2nd was 10 hours, I chose an epidural but otherwise there was no intervention, pushing took 20 mins, very superficial grazing and nothing else.

3rd took 45 mins, one push, no injury but also no time for any pain relief.

2nd was my favourite birth.

Thank you that is reassuring to hear.

My first birth was spontaneous, was in early labour for a few days, contractions irregular, waters never broke. Active labour was over 10 hours; had diamorphine but gas & air didn't work; DD turned on way out, 3rd degree tear, retained placenta, & massive PPH & no further pain relief (anaesthetist was in an emergency).

Second birth was induced (concerned about growth), had gas & air & diamorphine, waters broke. After about 4hrs, no further dilation, found baby had gone up birth canal & lying oblique! Had to have a csection & spinal block.

Birth 2 was easier & less scary. I was in tears the night before about a repeat of birth 1 or worse, but the csection was much better.

My first was horrendous - every single intervention going, 3 days of labour, waters broken, ventouse, epidural, episiotomy etc etc.

I actually had a really small gap deliberately between #1 and #2 because I knew I'd never want another if I stopped and processed properly. #2 arrived after about 6 hours of labour, all very calm and easy. #3 was about 3 hours and #4 was almost born in the car park!! On my notes it was 8 minutes from arrival to delivery...and I'd had one almighty contraction an hour before.

Good luck!

My first birth was like yours with a horrific recovery. Forceps with PPH, stays in HDU and infection after infection with my episiotomy. I came away with a healthy child but also PTSD and PNA which still haunts me 3 years on.

However, i've just had my second 10 days ago via ELCS (MW recommendation) and it was fantastic. I felt listened too throughout all aspects and whilst I did still haemorrhage during the section, it was no where near as bad and my recovery has been incredible compared to my first. The pain has been awful but very manageable.

I won't be having a third but feel like my ELCS gave me the closure and ability to have a wonderful birth!

First baby labour similar to yours, ended in a ventouse delivery followed by PPH.

Second baby quick labour, woke at 6am with strong contractions, went straight to hospital and was ready to push not long after I got there and baby was born at 9am after a few pushes and basically came straight out with no complications, not even a tear, went home 6 hours later!

First one similar to yours (but induced).

Second time, very straightforward - about 12 hours start to finish, only gas and air, small tear. Very, very different experience. They had extra drugs on standby in case of hemorrhage, which reassured me, but they weren't needed.

I also know someone in the same boat who went for the elective C-section, and she was very happy with it.

I wish you all the best whatever you choose!

My first was similar to yours but with a 3b tear. I decided on an elective section for my second and it was perfect. Recovery was amazing compared to my first
