Minor placenta previa - any advice?

Hi all, I had a scan at 32 weeks yesterday which confirmed my posterior placenta is still low lying (they guess around 5/6mm away) and sonographer thought it was very unlikely to move far enough away for a vaginal birth. Plan is to have another scan at 36 weeks and unless it has moved more than 2cm away will be a planned c-section (this is my first baby). No bleeding or anything so far. I was just wondering:

  • If anyone had any similar experiences?
  • when people had their C-sections?
  • if anyone’s placenta had actually managed to move between 32-36 weeks?!
  • any other advice… the sonographer at my 20 week scan was so positive it would move and kept saying that 95% do so I feel slightly thrown by this information!

Hello!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yes, mine had moved by my 37 week scan and I had a vaginal birth. I had no bleed at all throughout the pregnancy other than hormonal spotting at the very beginning.

Hope you have a smooth and healthy labour whatever way they arrive! X

@elm26 that’s really interesting to know, thank you! I don’t suppose you can remember how far away your placenta was at 32 weeks?

Really sorry I don't remember but the consultant came and saw me after my scan and said the same thing about it now being very unlikely that it would move x

@elm26 Interesting! I think I’m finding it hard to know how to mentally prepare myself for birth now. I had psyched myself up for at least attempting a vaginal birth, and now I feel like I need to get my head around a c section and all that entails, but I’m also aware that things could still change (maybe) at my 36 week scan and so I also need to be open minded for that…!

I was the same @hopingforapeainapod I prepared myself for a section and then last minute it was "okay well you are able to have a vaginal birth if you'd like to!".

I went home very confused about what I wanted to do, I had another scan a week later anyway due to babies growth slowing rapidly and she actually hadn't grown much at all since about 35.5 weeks (I had Covid at 32 weeks and they blamed this) so I opted for induction and she was born at 39 weeks on the dot. I was able to deliver vaginally with no forceps etc and she was healthy thank god.

I think it is unlikely it will move but mine did so I know it CAN happen. I think prepare yourself mentally for a C-section like I did, and if it moves you can always change your mind.

I'd be very confident it will move up OP

Mine didn't move. I had a c section which was fine. I think you need to prepare yourself for that possibility.
