I had my lovely DS 2 1/2 weeks ago, the bleeding had nearly stopped and just now it has really picked up again and (TMI ALERT) have just had two lumpy liver-like clots and dont know whether I should still let the midwives/doctor know...anyone? Is this normal? Haven't had any til just now.

I'm not a midwife, but it does come and go - mine had nearly stopped then came back with a vengeance after about 3 weeks. I think it depends if it's smelly or on the size of the clots - if they are worrying large (I'd say bigger than a 20p piece) then I'd call the midwives and see what they say. Congratulations, by the way!

Bigger than a 50p piece then the MW needs to know. Same happened to me too.

Turtle, not a midwife but have two dc's, speaking from my experience this sounds pretty much like what happened to me, apparently bleeding can depend a lot on whether you're resting and then more active. Or on the amount/frequency of breastfeeding (presuming you are).

My midwife advised me to contact them if the clots were as big/bigger than a 50p. I know this sounds disgusting but I saved one to show the midwife, she did'nt seem preturbed.
If in doubt get it checked!!!

Good luck and I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will be along soon to help.

People here are so quick!! Thanks, guys..did you have large clots? These are not huge, but prob inbetween a 20 and 50p. Was only thinking today how great it was to finally be calming down in that department. Fatal mistake!!

Yes, exactly the same. Thought it was all stopping then another 4 weeks of it.

Don't worry, but if you are concerned you can still call the labour ward if you can't wait until tomorrow to speak to the MW.

Ah...if it can be breastfeeding related then that would make sense. LO is determined to double in size today, he has been feeding twice as much as normal.

I'm a midwife... Sounds like its due to his increased feeding habits! Unless the bleeding suddenly gets exceptionally heavy, smelly or clots increase I wouldn't worry too much. However, I'm NOT your midwife and don't know your medical history. So if in doubt, check it out!!!
