Low variability CTG induction help

Hi, I'm currently 39+6. I'm currently in hospital being induced due to baby not growing in 3 weeks. I was on the baby monitor for 5 hours yesterday because there was low variability. The heart raye was pretty much constantly at 145 and would only have a couple accelerations. They've put 5 Dilapan rods in last night to try to break my waters and get labour started. This morning they've said that my cervix is still kind of long and might have to put more Dilapan rods in but they're concerned about the low variability. The hospital seems to be pushing for a c section if things don't progress quickly. Especially since the dilapan hasn't worked yet and they don't want to wait another 12 hours for a 2nd round of dilapan. I'm really scared of the thought of having a c section. Does anyone else have any stories or advice that can be of help.

My second baby was displaying decelerations and low variability on his CTG. As labour wasn't progressing, it was decided it would be best to go to C-section.

Prior to then, a C-section was the absolute last thing I wanted, but it was what was needed to get baby out safely, and I made my peace with it. It was still a lovely experience, and recovery was nowhere near as hard as expected.

I think with your baby not having grown, plus a worrying CTG when you're not even labouring yet means that things really aren't quite right in there, and it'll be safest to get baby out sooner rather than later. While CTGs do recover (as it seems yours has), if there is another episode of prolonged variability they won't want to be hanging around. In the gentlest possible way, I would start preparing yourself for a C-section.

Wishing you all the best.

If baby needs to come out soon and safely, then prepare for a section. I was induced due to IUGR, and, in the nicest way possible, a healthy live baby is the most important thing.

I've been monitored today and it seems like the heart rate has much better variability today and they're happy with me having a 24 hour pessary put in to start labour. Thank you for your help. I'll keep you updated on what happens.
