Fecal Incontinence

Hi,

After my first vagina delivery (back to back, episiotomy and ventouse) I experienced fecal incontinence and urgency for around 2 months where it was really bad and 6 months where manageable. Three years on and I’m completely fine, perhaps with a little more urgency than I used to have before birth but nothing that affects my life.

I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant and starting to wonder if I’m doing the right thing having another vaginal birth? Has anyone had experience of incontinence like I did and then had normal recovery after second birth? I think I’m worried I perhaps had an undiagnosed tear and will do more damage 😟

feeling a bit daft to leave it this late to worry about!

any advice appreciated.

If you mention this to your midwife and ask about referral to a women’s health physio they may be able to help you out… good luck with the new baby when it arrives xxx

I would deffinetly ask for the midwife OR the women's health specialist Gp to have a look at it for you.
You could try peinium massage. A massagenin general down there to help heal up and prep. Also at the time for transition you can ask partner or midwife to apply a warm/hot compress to the area. Also water birth/warm shower during labour.
Putting leas pressure on the pelvic floor being on all 4s is a great position to birth. Spinning babies talks a lot about this.
Hopefully modqife can direct you to take breaks and pauses during pushing, crowning etc to allow the periniu. to accomodate baby slow small pushes .
