There's a leaflet detailing what you should take to hospital, included on the list are:

2 pillows with favourite cases
paper fan
soothing picture for focal point (I assume a hammer and some nails would come in handy too) and maybe a handyman to put it up if your dh is not so good at diy
shawl to cover up whilst breastfeeding(after labour, is anyone really that bothered about showing a bit of boob?)
cosmetics
snacks (for partner, not poor labouring woman)
reference leaflets from antenatal classes

Has anyone used any of this stuff? And with 2 pillows and a bloody great big picture, won't you need a removal van to get it all to hospital?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Dh did bring me my pillow when he came back, but only because I begged him as the hospital ones were crap

StealthPolarBear · 12/04/2008 08:30

what's up kiskidee?

BouncingTurtle · 12/04/2008 08:46

Cosmetics - what are they??

I find ds feeds fine whenever I put Metallica on... maybe that's what they mean by 'special breastfeeding music'

I got two bags from Bounty they were filled with mostly crap.

SPB: just whinging about the really really dire state of threads on MN lately.

i do have the flu too and sciatica so I am just a ball of fun these days!

i have had amnio test and i think the needle went through a nerve and instead of my belly hurting, my arse hurts!

i already got the results back (just 24 hrs later!) all clear plus i found out it's a girl. which is a good thing because the week before I slurged on a pinky cotton/silk mix didymos and was embarrassed to tell dh how much I paid for it. now i don't care.

Cosmetics?

I looked fabulous after labour (with ds2 - not quite after ds1, but then I had been at it for 2 days plus and lost rather a lot of blood) -just glowing. Not that I wear makeup anyway. And as for a shawl - give me strength. What funny ideas about how a post-partum woman 'should' be behaving.

(kiskidee - I will email you a bit later!)

special music for bf?

berolina · 12/04/2008 09:22

Actually, the fan is not too bad an idea. Post-labour hormones made me very hot after ds2. It was a warm day too. I was desperate to open the window and the MW said 'it's not hot, it's your hormones' - well yes, maybe, but I AM HOT and opening the window to that lovely late-summer day outside would give me some flipping relief - the baby will not freeze, you've put about 20 layers on him

TotalChaos · 12/04/2008 09:27

yes, I agree with bero about the fan, my postnatal ward was stiflingly warm.

the rest are all bolleaux.

heronsfly · 12/04/2008 09:44

When I had dd1 [in the distant past] there was a laundry strike on, we had to take everything, sheets, quilts ,pillows, towels and about 4 lots of each to allow for changes but I did manage to slip the make up in .

mom2latinoboys · 12/04/2008 13:02

I brought cosmetics, snacks for dh and I, mainly for dh because if he doesn't eat he gets very cranky.
