brother has rung up ooh I think about 10 times already today - he's going to the hosp he's comoing back form the hosp! lol. they're keeping SIL in as apparently the ward is empty and she's yet to manage a successful feed.

odd thing was thou even thou she only had a few stitches, (apparently alfies cord was around his neck as well coming out ) they made her have a shower and go to the toilet more or less as soon as alfie arrived (at least within 2 hours of him being born)

brother's not very happy at all with the care up there, and is going to write a complaint, but not sure of the full ins and outs at the mo - all I know for def is she was up and down yesterday tot eh hospital, they sent her home at 11.30 pm and said your contractions are too far apart your not in labour (didn't check her over) 12 midnight waters went at home, she got to the hospital and needed to push straight away.

I didn't think you could go from 1.5cm dialated to fully in the space of half an hour and wanting to push. either way alfie is fine.

not sure what they are complaining about?

getting up after a normal birth, within an hour or two to go to the loo ( important to know if the mother can pass urine ok after the birth ) and a bath or shower is ok... usually hot and sweaty after the birth and it is nice to freshen up

also, some women, especially if they ahve a long latent stage can go very quickly from not dilated to fully, esepcually if they are at home, and mobile, and upright etc... as gravity helps.

glad alfie is ok.

no neither am I lulu to be fair, but then again we're only being told snippets from bro at the minute he's still a bit pumped up (as you normally are).

alfie was taken to the special baby unit apparently last night to check blood sugars. hadn't fed since he's been born properly, first thing the MW there did was give them some formula, SIL tried to feed him again with the view to top up after if required, but when back on the ward the usual MW took the milk away and said everything was fine - it's just he had his tounge on the top side of the nipple not the bottom to suck properly (not sure what they call that??)

hopefully now they'll get some good feeds in, and sil will be allowed home today.

brother's angry the second MW took the milk away as he feels baby needs it after not feeding properly. am trying to stay neutral on the subject (as the important thing is babys feeding anyhow,) did point out to brother that both baby and SIL are learning together to there's bound to be teething probs but if it's what she wants then to support her all on it.

Your brother needs to look at the Dr Jack Newman site/ Kellymom or www.howbreastfeedingworks.com (sorry not time to find the other links)
