Tummy tightening all day! Backache on and off.

I think these are BH, but what does anyone else think?

I've just spent all day wandering around with a tummy that feels like a baloon that will pop if I nudge it too hard. Really tight and honestly, I think it's been almost continious from about 10am till now. Backache on and off too. If I stand up suddenly it makes it worse

I also had what I think may have been a show this morning, although I"m not sure. It was basically a kind of thick discharge (tmi, I'm sorry!) that was creamy coloured, but with no blood in or anything? I don't think I've got a urine infection or anything so I don't think it's due to anything like that. I have heard that a show can mean labour starting anything between hours and weeks so I know that doesn't change things too much though.

Does it sound like labour could be starting? I'm 38 going on 39 weeks pregnant, and I have started having slight period kind of pains lower down, although nothing worthy of painkillers as yet. I think it's my back that is bothering me more than anything, and I thought BH came and went, I didn't think that they'd just make me feel like I had a bowling ball for a tummy all day.

Maybe I'm just having a baby elephant, and the weight is doing my back in? Any suggestions?

Best of luck to all you impatient mums-to-be!

well, it sounds like a show and some braxton hicks to me. big clump of snot like mucous , whether blood tinged or not, is a show.

have a bath, relax and go to bed

if this is 'it' your body will let you know soon enough

in the meantime, preserve your energy

if you are worried at all, you can call labour ward for reassurance

My "plug" came away a day or so before I went into Labour - I did not get bloody show until I was contracting quite hard. Everyone will say this but PLEASE go to bed and get some sleep. Keep us posted

BigBadMouse · 09/04/2008 22:01

No need to advise if Lulumama is here but just wanted to say that I think the best thing is to try and ignore the whole thing as much as possible (easy for me to say). It could be early labour but that could last for days / a week (IME) poss more so I've heard.

Whatever it is its all positive stuff.

I know from experience how irritating a long, drawn out labour can be and I really hope I can take my own advice when the time comes (doubt it though )

chaoskay · 09/04/2008 22:03

Thank you, I think I'll have an early night and see how it goes.

I'm not so worried as yet, but I am wondering if it could be 'it'. Thing is, I've thought the same thing every night for about 2 weeks now! (she says sheepishly).

OH just raises his eyebrows every time I come up with some new pregnancy symptom. At some point I'm going to have to suprise him, and actually get on and do this having a baby thing! (grins)

Thanks for taking the time to answer me and my neurotic query, it's people like you that make this site such a reserve of friendliness and good advice.

Sounds exactly how my labour with dd started. I had lower back pain to start off with - I went swimming to check it wasn't weight bearing related, and it didn't ease up, so I knew something was up. Then I had a show - but not blood tinged - exactly as you describe. The next morning the period pains started and as time progressed, a pattern started to emerge. By that evening they were regular contractions. By 4.30 the following morning I was holding my baby!
Not long now. Definitely do what Lulumama advises - get some rest - it's amazing what you can sleep through!

And????? Please post us a birth announcement.

I wish! Lol! Today I've just had an extremely active baby, and have felt a lot of back pain yet again.

It really feels like this baby is trying to kick it's way out. I can feel the baby putting pressure on my bits almost ever time it flexes (sorry, but I mean, having babies means losing all modesty). It must be a long baby because I can still feel feet right up under my ribs.

I've also had a few sharp pains down one of my legs, and several sharp shooting pains in places that you just wouldn't want to have sharp shooting pains, if you see what I mean?

Slight cramping, but just generally feeling kind of heavy in my lower stomach (yes, I know that would be the baby elephant before anyone reminds me), maybe tonight is the night? I do have the classic, feel like I'm starting a period feeling, more so as time goes on - but hey! I could be weeks yet!

I promise to post as soon as anything starts. I have my tens machine at the ready, and I guarantee I'll be on here like a shot asking for pain relief suggestions as soon as I get twinges. I'm just a wimp at heart.

I'm hoping for a home birth, but my 3 yr old has only just recovered from a full on 3 day sickness and dihorrhoea bug - she was very poorly and I'm wondering if it would be better to just go into hospital, in case the virus is still hanging around the house. It was worse than your usual sick bug so I'm being cautious, not sure as yet. I'll just see when the pain starts, and make my mind up then I think.

Nice to know I'm not on my own here! Ta

Chaosokay - ah don't worry about the TMI thing, I handed in my dignity when they gave me my pregnancy notes, twas for the best.

BTW you will already have been exposed to the bugs your 3 yr old has so I wouldn't worry about that. Just bleach the loo.

I'd plan to go out tonight if I were you, that normally does the trick

I've been wearing my best knickers in the hope that it will mean my waters will break. I thought about the worst possible place to start labour, so I booked a hair dressers appointment and sat and waited - I just got a haircut, and no baby.

I have been downing raspberry leaf tea like water, and I went to the park with my daughter yesterday and skipped down the hill in the hope it would trigger something.

Next is a hot curry, and definitely not next is sex. Give me cake instead! I'm willing to try anything else to bring this baby out except that particular method.

I keep shouting 'EJect, Eject, Eject' at my bump, but it is ignoring me.

I'm more worried about the new baby catching the sick bug tbh.

Sooooooon!!!!! (she shouts desperately!...)
