Hi all. Currently 32+3 with my second child. We've been closely monitored since 20wk scan due to measuring small (estimated <3rd centile). Currently Dopplers and amniotic fluid are looking good, as is BP etc. I've been told if he stays on his current trajectory they would want to deliver him 'by 37wks'.
As there are no other causes for concern at the moment, and my first son was a vaginal delivery, they are happy recommending induction. It would be balloon induction with no hormones etc (to reduce stress to baby?). However, everything I have read/heard about induction is not leaving me feeling hopeful about this path - particularly with a small, early baby. I'm just not confident my body would go into labour. I'm also wary of it becoming overly medicalised (my previous birth involved no pain relief and the only intervention was a last minute episiotomy right before he came out due to hand by head - 41+1 and only 5th centile which hadn't been detected pre-birth) or progressing to a C-section anyway after a more exhausting few days. Does anyone have relevent experience of this kind of induction at a similar gestation (bonus points if also a small baby!). I've read a few other threads on balloon induction which have provided some useful insights but none seem to have been early...
The alternative is elective section and I feel like I hear much more positive stories/experiences of this, although this option is also daunting to me as the thought of major abdominal surgery is a bit overwhelming!
Overall, like any Mum, I just want the best for my baby, and to get him here safely. I had 3 MCs last year so he is also our little rainbow baby and all the growth monitoring etc has unfortunately added a bit more anxiety to the latter part of the pregnancy than I would have ideally liked. I also have our adorable 3yr old at home so conscious of how the different options might impact him.
Really grateful if anyone has any valuable insights or thoughts! Ultimately it's obviously a decision I have to make and make my peace with (unless something takes induction off the table as an option anyway!) but happy to hear from others whove mulled similar issues over!
Thanks for reading!
