Another question on baby engaging- should my tummy have turned to jelly?

I'm 35+1 and my pelvis is really hurting at night, so I went to the doctor who had a feel about and said that baby's head is engaged. Obviously it's early, but I just sort of knew, so asked her to check.

The thing is, the bottom of my tummy has turned to wobbly jelly and almost has a flap. It's not tight bump at the bottom anymore, it's squishy, but tight at the top of my bump. My bump has also really dropped. It wiggles when I walk. Is this normal? Could the baby be back to back? Is 35 weeks very early for the baby to be engaged? I think he has been for a few days now.

Hi mumblesmummy,
My books say with first baby head usually engage 2-4 weeks before delivery ( wasn;t true in my case) so if correct your baby is probably going to be a week or two before your due date, but who knows. I am not sure about your tummy, I would ask the mw when you see her next time, but maybe just baby's position.

i was going to say maybe back to back.
ds2 was back to back the entire way through my pregnancy and I could feel his 2 knees at the front.
i also never got a sticky out tummy button like I did with ds1 who was not back to back

Hi Mumblesmummy - saw you mention this on the antenatal thread but guessed you'd get 1001 replies within 5 mins as is the case on there .

My DD1 and DD2 were fully engaged at 32 weeks. DD1 was on time, DD2 a week early.

I had a scan today (35 wks) and baby is back to back (last two were too). I asked the consultant about how likely it is that things will stay that way and he said they can turn around even when engaged (suprised me but he's the expert) so if your bump is back to back sounds like there is time to turn around again.

From what you describe about the tightness at the top of your bump I wouldn't neccessarily say your baby is back to back - could well be the baby's bottom making things tight at the top.

Sounds like my bump, and my lo was lateral (sideways)/back to back. Soft bottom of bump is often back to back. Worth checking with mw.

Hope it all goes well!
