Myself and some friends who are passionate about all things birthy have set one up and we start on Monday! eeeeeeeeeeek! we are doulas, ante natal teachers, and mothers ourselves.

it is going to run every month and we are going to facilitate rather than run / direct each one..

chosen 4 topics and going to do a rolling programme

so, for those who have run and /or attended such groups, what makes them good, bad or indifferent?

all tips and advice gratefully received

I've never been to one so can't help I'm afraid.

My advice:

You need a strong 'chair person' to gently lead any discussion group / forum. Someone who will round things up, move things on, give people a chance to have their say (there are always people who dominate and those who hang back) etc. - basically, somebody who will reign things in when they get muddled, heated or go on for too long.
Is there a calm, 'big sisterly' type of person in the group who would be naturally good at this sort of role?

thank you mrsmattie

there is definitely one person who would be great for that

thanks trolleydolley, i think we are all aware of being too oversimplistic, but good point. will discuss pros and cons of all pain relief i think. have lots of books, leaflets and website links to give out for help with birth and breastfeeding
