Zero advice I’m afraid - I’m 6 years on from mine and still getting hit by the overhang if I attempt to run, but following with interest! Sucks doesn’t it?!

TribeofFfive · 14/05/2024 14:08

Diet and exercise, both during and after pregnancy. I’ve had 4 csections and don’t have one but it’s been bloody hard work! If you get a PT they will advise which exercises work.

I can't afford a personal trainer that won't be happening lucky you that you didnt get your body ruined by 4 c sections.

I don't feel you can't really feel what I'm feeling since you haven't ended up with an overhang over your scars.

It’s not luck. And I did have it after my 2nd, hence why I’ve told you what worked for me. I was really strict with food and exercise during my 3rd and 4th pregnancies.

Dieting and exercising during pregnancy wouldnt have stopped me get an overhang from my unplanned c section that doesn't stop an over hang it's pure luck Iike same with stretchmarks creams don't stop them from appearing either also I was a healthy weight in the pregnancy I ended up going for an emergency c section I didn't put on to much weight but still didn't snap back I think your very fortunate to get rid of an overhang and not get another after all your c sections they happy to slice worm up but not put it back how it was before hand it's crazy I didn't ask for a c section it was an emergency.

I doesn’t matter if it’s elective or not, the C-section still happened. Fwiw, 2 of mine were emergencies.

It isn’t luck because I did have an overhang and don’t now. Like I said, I was giving advise which is what you asked for….

ILikePistachios · 14/05/2024 14:37

No advice but I understand you, I've had two EMCS and hate my overhang, I changed my whole wardrobe to be able to hide it, high-waisted everything.
I've reduced mine a bit by doing targeted workouts and using firming creams but i think I've reached the limit of being able to reduce it now.

Have you looked into BodyTite? Less invasive and expensive than a tummy tuck and doesn't leave a huge scar

No your trying to make me feel it's all my fault for not eating very little and not exercising for hours every day I don't have time to do that iv got 1 year old all day then I go work in the afternoon so not like I have loads of free time to spend in a gym when I'm not working I want to see my children.

OP I think you've misunderstood what @TribeofFfive said, she's saying she had an overhang, but with lots of hard work has got rid of it with diet and exercise, nothing to do with luck

No one is trying to blame you for it, and they can't, a C-section overhang is very normal and I believe it's caused by the muscles fusing to scar tissue which prevents that overhang from being firmly held up

Suggesting iv got money to throw at a personal trainer I'd be less pissed of if you told me to do some home exercise not starve mysel pay money out I don't have.

You don't need a gym, personal trainer or any expensive equipment. Download a few workout app, BetterMe is a good one, plenty of great workouts which target specific areas, even on the free version, you can do them at home whenever you get some spare time, get your toddler involved, they love that kind of thing

Minniemooose · 14/05/2024 14:55

I didn’t have a section but after two kids and 11 years since my last I was thinking the other day about my overhang. I’m quite slim but I feel like no amount of exercise will ever shift it. Even when I lose a bit of weight there it is, the overhanging bulge

It’s annoying and I’m covered in stretch marks 🥴🙄

DinnaeFashYersel · 14/05/2024 14:56

I don't think you are being at all fair to @TribeofFfive

You asked people to share what worked for them. That's what worked for her.

I had an overhang and dieted for several months and did an online exercise class for 30 mins each day gradually building up to 50 mins and got rid of mine.

Then I stopped dieting and exercising and it's back 🥲. I really need to get motivated to repeat.

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2024 14:58

I had a c section and like PP, eating well and exercising post-birth (at home, not with a PT) got rid of it pretty much.

WYorkshireRose · 14/05/2024 15:01

Do you want practical advice or sympathy OP? Because you haven't been very nice to at least one poster who was trying to help you. The truth is, it isn't luck, and to suggest it is could be quite insulting to the efforts of other women who have put the time and dedication in to eating well and exercising. That can cost a lot, or a little, we all have different budgets. Your woe is me/life is unfair attitude will get you nowhere though.

bryceQ · 14/05/2024 15:05

not really sure what you want people to say, it can only be diet and exercise.
Obviously this is considerably harder when you've got a small child and you are exhausted.. It's an incredibly difficult time to diet and work out.

SparkyBlue · 14/05/2024 15:12

OP my body had never been the same after 3 c sections but if I'm good with diet and exercise the overhang really isn't all that noticeable. I've let myself go lately and now I'm back exercising again. But I will say some people do seem to be luckier than others. I never had sensitivity in that area and I healed really well whereas I know some women who've only been able to wear high waisted knickers as anything low irritates them.

CheeseyOnionPie · 14/05/2024 15:17

Start small and go from there. If your baby is only 1 then it hasn’t been that long really. Put your best efforts into it however you can and see what results you get. You can always dedicate more time later on when the baby is in nursery or school. Don’t be too hard on yourself, that body gave you your kids.

My apologies I'm feeling down it's summer and nothing looks good on me iv had to put loads of dresses and top back because of how much it pokes out of I'm stuck with flowy styles only it looks like an ass as the front not massive but it's there iv been to the gym previously and it's 's never gone away iv done floor exercises dieted and ate a diet of nothing but salad jacket potatoes a brown pasta and chicken and tuna mostly 2 litres of water a day for 3 months straight I Lost over 2 stone in weight but the over hang hasn't gone down iv also got loads of veins on my legs bulging ones gp told she isnt concerned so I probably get refused them even though it effects my mental health.

But 3 months isn’t very long to be dieting and doing exercise. It takes consistent effort over years to make these changes. I think the beauty and diet industry have flooded the market with products and supposedly wonder workouts that promise quick results and these are so unrealistic. It is very hard work. It is very hard work done consistently over a long period of time that will make a difference.

I have struggled with my body post c-section too. I have a slight overhang but years later it is reducing. I’m also working on my mindset with fitness and working on having a strong, functionally fit body and feeling fuelled and having more energy for the day to day stuff rather than on what I look like. For me, this has had the biggest impact on my self esteem and mental health. It is freeing to focus on what my body can do rather than what it looks like.

It’s not a lost cause OP. If you find what you like to do, put research into foods that will help you and keep at it as a lifestyle change, you will see results eventually.

fisherking1 · 14/05/2024 15:59

I think it has a lot to do with the surgeon tbh and I didn't have one with my first 2 sections but did with my third. I don't think it is that easy to get rid of an overhang.
