Induction questions

so at the moment I have been “induced” since Thursday. So at my exam she said I didn’t need the pessary and can jump straight to waiting for waters to be broken. I thought woohoo, what a great sign. There’s a really long wait for that to happen. We went home for a bit today, I’ve been told I’m first in the queue and now we have come back, there are two other ladies in bays. One has been started on the pessary and she has been told if she feels any contractions overnight to let them know.

I feel like the pessary might end up putting her in front of me if she gets contractions? It’s all very confusing and it doesn’t make sense. Can anyone make sense out of the induction process and why some people need pessaries and others don’t?

I was never offered any of those things, I was offered the gel (which did work). It's all so confusing, no idea why the pessary was never mentioned to me! Good luck

Needing the pessary means her cervix isn't dilated enough to have her waters broken like yours is. Feeling contractions might be a sign of things starting to open up, or labour starting, so naturally the midwives would like to know.

Things won't necessarily happen, so hopefully you'll remain top of the list and get the next available labour ward bed.

I had a pessary on two of my children. My cervix wasn't ready enough for them to be able to break my waters so the pessary was the next step

It's all dependent on what happens. I went in to be induced, too dilated for pessary or balloon. Sent home to wait for waters to be broken. They partially went at home while I was waiting, so I jumped to front as rest needed breaking and was on 24 hour countdown for infection risk. As it was contractions started themselves, rest of waters went and didn't end up actually induced in any way.

The pessary should soften cervix to get them to the stage you're already at. But remember you're all there to be induced so likely overdue. One of their bodies could go into labour somewhat naturally at any point in the process, as could you.

I had the pessary as was only 1cm dilated, it did bring on contractions quickly, 12 hours of them, but then everything stopped. I then waited for another four days to get on the labour ward to have my waters broken. Kept being told I was top of the list, but there were other emergencies or women that went straight into active labour. I went round in the end in an emergency due to issues with her heart rate. Remember thinking about that scene in friends when Rachel is in labour and all the women come in and immediately go off to give birth, it was beyond frustrating. Good that you get to spend a bit of time at home too, hope you don't have to wait too much longer
