BMI - 42 at booking.
was hoping for a natural birth like with my first but been diagnosed with GD this time so it’s not looking likely

c-section question.
how well did you scar heal with been over weight, I have this massive fear it just won’t heal with the overhang been in the way.
Any advice?

I won't lie, it was a bit of a struggle getting it to heal.

With already having a toddler, on top of the demands of a newborn, I rarely had time to lie back to air the wound. As a result I had a couple of infections, but antibiotics cleared them all up. It also opened slightly on one side, but eventually the whole thing healed beautifully.

Post healing, I get repeated fungal infections in the area when I'd never had them before. Annoyingly, it's also more of an overhang now too.

@Dyra overall how long roughly did it take you to heal?
sounds like you had it pretty rough with the healing!

A few months. I want to say 3-4 months. About double the amount of time it should have done. The newborn that was hauled out of my midriff turned two last month. So the exact details are lost to the combined efforts sleep deprivation (at the time, he sleeps very well now) and time itself.

Reading back, I realise I made it sound horrific. Truthfully, the C-section itself was fine. Unexpected, but fine. The recovery itself was surprisingly easy. The wound infections were more annoying (and smelly) than anything, as it was yet another thing to sort out, and deal with. I think if I had taken the time to air my wound more regularly, it might not have taken so long. But it did eventually go away and heal up. Can barely see the scar. Which is nice.

@Mummy9431 I had a vaginal delivery with GD and there were no issues? Also high BMI! If that's what you want then the medical team should support you.

Mummy9431 · 02/05/2024 17:42

@LolaJ87 thanks it is what I want, I’m gunna try everything I can to get baby to come naturally but if things don’t go to plan this is one of my worries about the scar not healing well :)

Similar bmi to you.

Had 2 x emcs.

Both scars healed quickly, well and without issues, despite a huge overhang.

Wash it well.

Dry it very well (pat dry, let it air dry completely).

Allow air to get to it as often as you can (I used a small handheld fan to it, felt nice..!)

After a week or so, when showering, I would use a tiny amount of baby oil on the area before drying myself which I feel helped.

I have just had a baby..bmi of 39 at booking, over 35 years old and had GD....I had a water birth!

Don't go with a c section if its not what you want, wait and see how things pan out? If it is what you want then that's different x

2 CS both I was classed as obese.
Both times got infected, I did everything I could to keep them clean and dry. I had 2 week courses of antibiotics for each time, all healed fine after that. I only notice my scars when I do heavy sets in the gym now.
