Seeing the actual birth during a caesarian

Hi all

If I have to have a c-section I quite fancy the idea of seeing them cut me open so I get to see the baby as it comes out (if I'm allowed). However DH is not so sure he wants to and I wonder if when it comes down to it all the blood etc will freak me out a bit, although I'm not v. squeamish usually.

I'd love to know if anyone has done this and if you recommend it!

Thanks

colacubes not sure how I'd have felt if I'd seen it from the beginning. I think I would have done the same as you, but I was mainly looking at DH during the op. We'll see how I go on with this one!

Crumbs this is making the reality of the third babies birth very real . I have had two sections and didnt know half this stuff.!

Mum Don't think about it. Personally, it's having the spinal I hate. After that I just look at DH and wait to receive the baby. I remember feeling a tiny bit miffed DH had looked at all my insides' like an invasion of privacy.Bit silly I know but there you are.

pinky, I agree not a good luck seeing insides, mine didnt though he would have fainted. the nurse was saying they had him down as a fainter, all nervous and shaky, thankfully he stayed upright.

Mum, good luck, do what you are comfortable with, I did try the 2nd time after emergency section, but went the same way the 2nd time, so threw the towel in earlier, and said "ok u win take me down", hope it goes well for you, and watch out for the shiny light above you, it really is like a big mirror.

I saw part of mine and DH saw most of it because they lowered the screen a birth a wee bit too far and DH stood up when dd came out in shock.....visibly paled and the nurse sat him down before he fell down.

Quite honestly I've had a few surgeries awake and seen too much of my insides and the clamps and spreaders they hold you open with just look brutal - don't go there.
