4th Degree Tear Question - Advice needed (TMI)

Ok,

I have an 8.5 month old monster ds. I had a 4th degree tear with him, and was referred onto Physio etc, I had some problems with healing, but when he was 5 months I was given the all clear and the pain ahd all gone.

Now recently I have been having some pain in my bum area, and it has been steadily getting a bit worse. It is more of an ache. I looked at the area in the mirror and it appears that there is a large amount of what appears to be scar tissue coming out of my rectum (although I can admit to not paying too much attention to my rectum before childbirth).

Is this normal, should I see a doctor. I am not sure how long I should expect to feel pain after a tear like that as I felt I healed pretty well.

No idea if it is normal or not, but you should go and see the doctor.

Is it like extra skin? If so when you heal your body can grow too much skin/tissue to heal, and you can end up with an extra bit. I think it's called a skin tag. If the pain is bad i would suggest seeing a doctor. Having said that it took me 1 year to heal after having a 3rd degree tear. It took ages to find sex comfortable.

By the way i didn't tear at all with no.2, so it's possible to tear once and then not again!

Hope you heal soon.
xx

Thanks

It does look like extra skin, am going to see how the pain goes, as I am well known for always doing too much!

It is nice to hear stories about not tearing next time. My midwive was very positive about having another natural birth, but consultant was very negative!

Thanks for all the advice, my DP keeps looking at me funny when I discuss it!!! AT least you can talk about these things on mumsnet...

If in doubt see a dr. What I would be concerned about is why has it started hurting again when it didn't before? Have you started cycling or horseriding? Is there a chance you could be pregnant?

I am slightly concerned about it hurting again, but hate doctors, and had convinced myself that the looking at my bum thing had finished a few months back! Should go and make an appt....

Funny about the pregnancy thing, I actually thought I was pregnant, but negative test and the lovely AF arrived today (phew!).

Yes definitely see doc. I had 3rd degree, little bit of trouble for a while, but once it healed and the pain stopped then everything was fine.

I think it's the fact that the pain has come back which is a bit worrying. I totally understand what you mean about it being more of an 'ache'.

It makes my bum clench just to think back to that and think about it!

I know it's horrible. You just want it to heal and get back to normal and forget about that area of your body! You get sick of people looking at it don't you!

Best to see doc and be on the safe side though. It doesn't sound quite right.

That's rubbish for you - if there's one part of your body that you don't want poked and prodded... I had piles after both my pregnancies. I hope it gets sorted soon.
