Hi my ds is 5 months. He got stuck so I had forceps which ended in a 3rd degree tear. 'down there' looks awful, will it ever get even vaguely back to normal? I have been referred to the gynaecologist as I was having trouble with escaping air (sorry if tmi) and I have this awful feeling that everything is going to fallout my bits eg when I am going down stairs or exercising. The gyny told me that I shouldn?t be exercising till lo is at least 6 months old I did not know this, no one told me, so have been playing tennis, want to start running etc. He said I should have had a hospital app at 6 weeks to see all was well but I was told on discharge after having lo that I wouldn?t be seen. Gyny also said that I should have been having physio but I've also not had any of that either. Have app for physio now but it's in a group situation where pelvic floor exercises are taught and a leaflet handed out, will this be different from the leaflet I was given when I gave birth? The app is 2 months away...
I have had a ct scan for the escaping air and are having a barium enema also to try to diagnose the problem. Will this show up any problems with my bladder as I feel surely I should be diagnosed before having physiotherapy? My Dr who referred me mentioned it could be a prolapsed bladder...

Oh how horrible for you

I have a friend who has a similar problem - she's finally going in during the next month to have reconstructive surgery.

Okay, here's what you need to do: Go to your GP and request a referral to an obstetric physiotherapist (and sooner than two months away as well) and an obstetric surgeon - you need to get both bits looked at because there will be surgical damage as well as muscle damage probably. Having said one can refer you to the other, but I think the surgeon is probably the first port of call because until you are structurally intact, it's hard to establish what muscular problems you have.

I think you really need to push for an earlier appointment. Point out that this is a disabling injury that is stopping you enjoying your life and being a mum.

But yes, eventually with treatment it will get better. And you really won't fall apart when you do things - however it might feel.

Hang in there
