Am due to give birth at W Midds Hsopital next month and was wondering if anyone had given birth there too? If so, how would they rate the experience and the midwives?

Hiya,

I've had 2 of my kids there and couldn't fault them.

Look for a lovwly large, middle aged midwife called Erika. She is fab.

good luck.

I had mine at west mid and the midwives were great.

I was also born there.

i had DD2 at west mid
the place was so busy, no labour rooms free when i turned up (despite me ringing during early labour a good few times)

however despite this i was in a recovery room, had a brilliant lovely midwife who stayed the whole time. Consultant popped by to check baby heart rate (was being monitored as it was erratic).

ward a bit crappy, bathrooms not the cleanest (bring some dettol wipes), but all in all the important things like great midwives i couldn't fault.

Thanks ladies. I'll remember these facts (and some bathroom cleaner!).E

had dd there in 2005. very busy and understaffed we were left alone for long periods with a very long very painful labour.
when things got hairy there was support and things moved quickly.

dd needed SCBU for the first night and dh stayed around with her for as long as he could as he found then to be understaffed and not very attentive, also the babies who were less poorly were mostly looked after by agency nurses.

the ward was also understaffed, I got a single room and it was ok but not very clean

very bad breast feeding support, bordering on neglect

but I am sure it will be fine most people do like it and have good experiences I think it was just bad luck with me really -

the other thing i thought of lying in bed last night was that at west mid they give the BCG injection to babies the day they are born.

I had to push quite hard to refuse it.

Just to warn you - you need to decide now whether you want the baby to have it or not, and you have to be quite forceful and definite if you don't want it. I ended up telling them i'd have it at the doctors "next week" as they just didn't seem to understand no as an answer.

My first experience was in 2010 with my first born and it was fantastic but when I had my second in 2015 it was different story. The midwives were rude and unhelpful and there was a Dr there who was extremely rude and this was when I had my c section less than 24hrs before and when it was breakfast time I couldn’t bar was to move a limp never mind getting up for breakfast so the lovely dinner lady came and offered to bring it to me as I was in so much pain and to my shock the Dr told her she’s too nice she doesn’t have to bring it to me at all as I could get up myself and get it! Mind you this was less than 24hrs after my c-section! I will not be returning to them for my future birth. Although the Antenatal midwifes were fantastic except 1 rude one but the Delivery suit were careless and rude. This is just my experiences so it may differ from someone else’s.
