If you've had a natural delivery then a C/S...

do you still get the same euphoric feeling immediately after birth?

Have been told my baby is breech at 34 weeks and although I know there's still time for it to turn, am trying to prepare myself mentally for C/S.

Been feeling very down since I found out as just wanted a quick natural delivery like the last 2 times and am dreading things like not being able to hold my baby straight away, not being able to drive for 6 weeks when I have 1 DS at school and 1 DS at playschool, having to stay in hospital for a 3 nights or however long it is as our hospital is not letting children visit you due to MRSA. Think I will be an emotional wreck if I can't see my boys for that long.

God I sound like such a moaner but it has just really got me down.

If you've had both, would love to hear your experiences. Ta.

i've just had 2nd emergency section, after 32 hour labour and dreaded ending upin hosp...BUT it was still euphoric... if that helps

good luck!

No - but maybe I am the wrong person to ask I was so gutted to have a cs and worried about dd because it was an emergency. It was the recovery that was the worst - people who had a natural delivedry up and about whilst I was hobbling around.

i had the section at 6.30am and was out of hosp by evening of next day... no need to stay for 3 nights... important thing is to get up and about as soon as you can, then you can start asking to go home, the midwies are usually delighted to agree as you make it easy on them!

I haven't had a vaginal birth but my first was an emergency section after a very long & hard labour - no euphoria, just relief & slight disbelief that we were both alive. My section was a planned section and I was absolutely euphoric for weeks afterwards - I'd never felt so brilliant in my life

I've only had c-sections, but got the most amazing euphoric feeling after my second (elective) section. It was just so calm and peaceful, one minute I was lying back chatting to the surgeon, the next I was holding my new dd in my arms. It was one of the best moments of my life, although I can't compare it to a natural birth as I've never had one.

My first was equally exciting but mixed with the joy was a lot of anxiety and pain (long labour and emergency c-section).

Do as much preparation as you can now, and make plans for things like who will take your ds to school. By the way, you don't have to stop driving for 6 weeks - check with your insurance company but for me it was only 3 weeks. And fill your freezer with food now, but you probably know that!!!

Two emergency C sections, and euphoric both times despite long labours. Was home after 48 hours (would happily have gone earlier but "not allowed" and didn't want to make a fuss), driving after 2-3 weeks.

diplodocus · 28/03/2008 18:40

By the way, you can hold your baby immediately, and certainly in my case children could visit ( 5 months ago).

hotpotmama · 28/03/2008 22:30

Thanks for all your replies, making me feel a bit better about it all, esp the driving if its not 6 weeks.

Starlight, I got euphoric feeling, like I was on cloud nine after both my VBs. Was amazing which is why I am scared of being cut open and not having that feeling. Yes it hurt but the pain seems like nothing when you have got the baby in your arms. 2nd time around was so much easier and was hoping 3rd would be too but maybe its not to be.

Think I would be too scared to deliver a breech vaginally. But may look into it.

Cheers everyone.

What euphoric feeling after a vb is that then?

I didn't experience that and with the csect 2nd time I don't remember anything euphoric either.

It doesn't depend on the manner of the birth it depends on the individual mother concerned whether there is instant euphoria or, like in my case, a more gradual bonding.
