Very large baby - early c section?

Any insight/wisdom appreciated. Currently 35 weeks and baby is measuring VERY large. I know scans can be out but I've had weekly scans for the last 3 weeks and growth has continued to be steady (+99th centile). I am having an elective section anyway (this was decided before size of baby was known). Baby is being monitored for a couple of minor abnormalities (we were incredibly worried but at the last scan things have improved, however baby will be admitted to NICU hopefully just for observation). When the consultant was more concerned, there was talk of taking baby out at 37 weeks for a possible procedure. However at the appointment this week it was decided the need for procedure is unlikely so they they will try to get to 38-39 weeks. However, at just 35 weeks baby is already measuring over 8lb!!! Does there become a point where they decide baby is so large that they will do an earlier section? Baby has put on 1lb a week for the last 3 weeks and if this continues, I'm on track for a 12lb baby! (I know growth can slow and again aware scans aren't always accurate). I'm already very uncomfortable, back ache, struggling to sleep and bump is tight and sore. The thought of another 4 weeks is freaking me out!! Has anyone had a slightly earlier section just due to size of baby?! TIA

I wouldn’t have thought they would do a section earlier for a large baby. My first was 11lb 7 and I am measuring along the same lines for my second and honestly no one is remotely concerned. Won’t send me for a growth scan or anything. I, on the other hand am fairly concerned as I was in absolute agony the last few weeks and i feel like my hands are tied for a second c-section!

Best of luck though, nothing nicer than a chubby baby!

Unless it's for the health of the baby or mother, they won't do an early section just because the baby is large. The size of the baby is sort of irrelevant.

I feel your pain though. I had two sections, first was an emergency and baby was 9 13 and lying back to back and stuck solid. 2nd baby was in the same position and they did the elective section at 39 weeks but that was really because they only did them on Wednesdays and I was scared that if they left it to 40 weeks I'd go into labour beforehand.

2nd birth was 13 months after the first with another back to back baby who was expected to be large so potential to get stuck and also a chance of the scar rupturing. I did not want to risk going into labour.

My second was measuring 99th centile all the way through and at 34 weeks was measuring 7lb on the growth scans. I had a whopper first baby (think 11lb 😳) and was petrified he was going to be even bigger. He was born at 9lb12oz at 39+1. They refused to perform my elective any earlier based just on weight and turns out they were right. The growth scans are a bit rogue to be honest, like I said my first was huge and he measured bang on 50th. I think at 36 weeks we were given a predicted birth weight of 6lb6 and he came out nearly double 😂 I'd take it with a big pinch of salt, it's good you're having monitoring and seeing the consultant but trust your body and the professionals, and hopefully he'll be under the 10lb mark!
