Induction/prenatal ward

Hi all,
can anyone who’s had an induction please let me know how their experience was on the prenatal ward? My cervix is fully closed, so I’m preparing to be spending a long time on the prenatal ward - is it possible to get any sleep overnight (bit concerned about being awake for 2/3 days straight and then being too exhausted for labour), do partners generally come and go a bit (eg get showered/ fresh clothes)?

im being induced as the baby is showing as small on scans (6lb at 39 weeks, previously 5lb1 at 37 weeks).

TIA,
Linda

I had the diapan rods on Monday, totally unexpected, didn't hurt and they dialated me to 2cm within the 12 hours. Waters broke but then nothing. Was put on oxytocin drip and gave birth 3 hours later on gas and air. Very positive and all fine. X

It was getting on for 8 years ago so memories a bit hazy.

Admitted to the ward in the morning. Not in my own room. Bishop score was low, so I wasn't optimistic about the induction working. Had the prostaglandin pessary. Nothing much happened all day. Husband visited but not around the whole time. Boring, restless night without much sleep between the noise, heat, and light on the ward. Ended up taking myself off to the hospital lobby for a rest on a sofa there and coming back when I was due a check up. Somewhere along the line had another pessary. 4pm ish second day started having contractions. Midwives mostly sort of ignored me but my husband was allowed to stay around. I was having regular, strong contractions by ward handover around 8pm but my midwife wasn't being very attentive in all honesty, so I ended up taking the pessary out myself because I was worried about hyperstimulation. Waters broke about 10pm on the ward. Nice new midwife had got me gas and air shortly before then and confirmed that I was indeed in labour. Whizzed through to labour ward, baby born happy and healthy around midnight. Had an episiotomy that healed well.

I was worried I'd be exhausted from the sleepless night ahead of labouring, but honestly I was so ready to push when the time came. Such a relief! And it was only one more sleepless night ahead of the coming months/ years of disturbed sleep'

All the best op.

Thanks for all the responses everyone :) after speaking to midwives and the consultant today I’m feeling a little better about it, I understand the reasonings for it more now it’s been explained by the consultant. Oddly I feel more reassured baby will be monitored more closely, if anything.
thanks so much for all the replies and well wishes :) xx

I was induced at 39 weeks and had an emergency c section on the evening of day 6 after no labour and all options failed, I won’t lie to you I didn’t sleep on the wards it’s very interrupted, I got even less when I got the private room too I was hallucinating I’m talking 90 minutes a night broken up, I hope your experience is better. I’m telling you this as I wish someone had been honest with me, I made the mistake of doing hypnobirthing and had a very warped perception of what birth would be like and wasn’t prepared at all. Take a suitcase with anything and everything you may need especially lots of nighty and a throw for comfort it helps, sleep whenever you can as different people ie the drs and midwives may visit you as often as 30 minutes through the night to check heart beat or discuss things with you etc x
