Im confused!
Which ones would be best?
Maternity ones?
Night time ones?
Normal ones?

I have actually had a baby before, and from what I remember, the bleeding (tmi) wasnt too bad afterwards, but I want to make sure theres no accidents!

maternity ones, deffo.

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 14:13

I had matty ones the first time and nighttime ones the second - this they're much of a sameness to be honest

Spoo · 22/03/2008 14:14

TMI maybe! but you need one that does not have that weave sheet on the top as the blood is a bit more lumpy than the period blood and it will not pick it up.

Flubdub · 22/03/2008 14:15

Spoo - yes tmi!

Blush Grin

maternity - used two at once & then after two days used nighttime ones.

Pedrolina · 22/03/2008 15:17

also don't get the slim line ones - i got some of each (slim maternity ones with wings and ordinary breeze block maternity) and the breeze block ones are much nicer as they cushion your poor sore perinium!

TuttiFrutti · 22/03/2008 22:34

Alldays Night Time.

Always are a bit thinner but more plasticy the maternity bricks are more cottony usually and more comfortable if you are a bit erm rough down below, the extra thickness gives a bit more comfort and security.

itsahardknocklife · 22/03/2008 22:39

I agree with Tutti Frutti, the NIght Time ones. I did try Mothercare ones but found them to be rubbish!

Pannacotta · 22/03/2008 22:43

I think something bit padded in case you need stitches or are just sore, makes sitting more comfy IME.
I used Natracare maternity pads for a few days then just their ordinary ones, as they are organic cotton they are very soft and dont irritate your poor battered nether regions....

pofaced · 22/03/2008 22:44

I'm with Tutti Frutti too... 3 babies on can never understand what's with maternity pads!

Pannacotta · 22/03/2008 22:46

Depends I think on if you have stitches or sore bum!!
In which case some padding is good.

Neney1 · 22/03/2008 22:52

Someone told me that the plastic backed ones encouraged bacteria to grow???? Not quite sure how, but it made me stick to the maternity ones!!

Pannacotta · 22/03/2008 22:55

I was told by several midwives not to use Always type pads, they told me the maternity ones were best, similar reasons to Neney I think.

WombFor1More · 23/03/2008 09:15

I have always used maternity towels, usually the boots and mothercare ones. I seem to bleed a lot in the first few days and found I was using 2 at a time!!

My mw gave me a great tip, use newborn nappies at least for the first day. That way there is no leaking, they're super absorbant, go all the way round and sooooooooo comfy. Sounds strange but it works

lennied · 23/03/2008 14:30

Kotex night pads are good cos they aren't plasticy like always and have wings to hold them in place - I found that maternity pads tend to wick at the sides and are too thick once you are past the first day and want to be moving about more. For the first few hours you can use a pad horizontally across the bum area of your pants too so that there are no leaks when lying down. Newborn nappies sound like a great idea!

SlightlyMadSweet · 23/03/2008 14:45

you could get sucked in by mothercare and pay 50p each for sterile maternity pads .

I used night time pads first time as I had prem labour and had to send DP & MIL to chemist and that was all they had. I used Tesco maternity followed by always night time secon time.

You need a good length as well as width .

Another tip is to buy some pampers care mats type things. That way you can lay on your bed with you "legs akimbo" to quote my midwife to allow some air to get at your stitches and encourage healing.
