Hi so basically i am 19 weeks pregnant with my 5th child. I have a high bmi and had one 'small' baby my first baby so I am under consultant led care. All my pregnancy have been fine and other than a third degree tear with my second I have had no issues. I spoke to my midwife and my appointment today and she said I can have a home birth and because of my previous births and pregnancys this shouldn't be a problem. I said I would go away and research and we will make plans if I want to go ahead at my next appointment. I would love to have my baby at home so my other Children get to experience it and just heard they are so much more relaxed but on the other hand I'm worried if something does go wrong. Has anyone had a high BMI and had a successful home birth? Thankyou

Hundreds of people 😃

Join Samantha Gadsen's home birth group on Facebook. It's called Home Birth Support Group UK.

Lots of stories on there!

Oh really thankyou! I had a quick look on Google but nothing came up. Will have a look on there now. Thankyou so much 😊

So welcome! I had both my kids at home and it was brilliant x

Check the ambulance response times for your area, that would be my worry

This is what’s putting me off a home birth. I’d also consider a contingency plan for your other kids if things don’t go to plan.

Sorry to sound daft here but how would you check those. The hospitals not far at all but that doesn't mean an ambulance would be any faster. So that's an excellent point. Thankyou

My mum would be here so the children wouldn't be a problem. I don't think I'd like them to see anything go wrong though either so there's alot to consider.

I wouldn't worry about ambulance waiting times.

It's not the same as calling 999 and being triaged. The midwives call a separate number for a transfer. If there was an issue with ambulance shortages they would just suspend the home birth service.

Ask the midwife about transfer times for emergencies
