Elective c section at 41 weeks

Hi

I have a planned c section on the 15th January I will be 41 weeks. It’s a maternal request not medical. They have changed my due date multiple times when I’ve been for scans they’ve gave me 3 different due dates the latest one makes me 41 weeks at the time of the section. I was told the section would be done at 39 weeks so I asked why it’s being done so late and they said it’s because I’m low risk and they don’t have availability. I am having extremely bad back pain to the point where I can’t walk anymore, the baby is on a sciatic nerve. They said if there was any cancellations they would call me. I have been for my c section prep and have my prescription for the tables I take the night before. Just wondering if anyone has had a phone-call for a cancellation for c section and is it possible they could ring this week. I no I’m hoping and it probably won’t happen but the thought of going another week in this pain is killing me.

also if anyone has any tips or advice For c section recovery would really appreciate you sharing them. Thank you for reading

I opted for a C section and had the ranitidine etc as you describe. They called me in on my due date and the baby was absolutely huge. I think I would have probably ended up with a birth injury or worse if I’d tried to go for a natural birth.

I knew it, I felt instinctively that I needed a C section.

can you speak to a doctor?

My C section recovery was perfect. Signed myself out of hospital day 2 and was walking into town within a couple of days.

I had an elective section booked at 39weeks but then had a medical emergency at 37weeks so out she came. So much better than induction and VB with DD1, less exhaustion, less pain. Up and around by lunchtime, home the next morning, back in the car day 2. Only needed a couple of painkillers on day one (as opposed to several weeks when my poor fanny got torn apart first time round, and when I had put out my Pelvis and been on hands and knees for 3 weeks beforehand). I really hope they manage to get you in this week!!

Mine recovery was also perfect. I was out within 20hrs. Mine was planned for 39, but went into labour at 37.5w, so had to wait for a slot to become free.

If you go into labour they will move you up the list as you become cat 1.

this happened to me as I went into labour naturally at 39+1 and ELCS was 39+2.

recovery from my first was very straightforward
I recommend silicone strips from 3-4 week post surgery and also getting a mummy mot / postnatal massage to keep scar fascia loose

They said baby was large and I’m absolutely huge to the point where people point and stare at me in the hospital, so I’m glad I’ve opted for this as I think the same would happen and I’d be cut anyway. I’ve got a midwife appointment tomorrow but I feel like I’m being judged because there’s no medical reason. The doctor hasn’t helped told me to use a hot compress and paracetamol which doesn’t touch the sides. I’m constantly checking my phone hoping they’ve rang 😂
