London Private C Section

Hi All, I am currently pregnant with my second baby and am considering which consultant/hospital to go to in London. My first baby died at a day old following medical negligence during labour in a hospital outside London. I ended up having an emergency c section with my first baby and my next is due with only 15 months in between.
I have been advised to have an elective c section and would like to go privately as I have no faith or trust in the NHS anymore.
Does anyone have any recent recommendations for consultants and/or private hospitals? I have been considering Jasmine Tay and Bryony Jones at QCCH private wing but am just really looking for the most thorough and caring person in the best possible place.
Thank you.

Hi Mumsnet. I just wanted to thank everyone for their input and to update you on my outcome. I ended up having my beautiful baby girl at QCCH under Jasmine Tay. She was AMAZING and put me so at ease. I delivered at 38 weeks balancing up my mental health with the baby’s best interests to get her out as early as possible but to not need help with breathing. Stanley Clayton is not as prestigious as Lindo but it was nice and quiet, lovely food and helpful staff. Some midwives and assistants were of course better than others but my calls were always answered promptly and i was helped a lot in the first few days. Thank you all again and let me know if I can help anyone else with their decisions!

Congratulations OP, I went with Jasmine Tay in the end too and was as happy as I could be with the experience (although I did not enjoy the ELCS for other reasons!). She was great, and I was at the Lindo which was good too. Enjoy your new baby!

Hi, can I ask how much you ended up paying for your births at Lindo with Jasmine Tay? I have to pay out of pocket as my insurance doesn’t cover so trying to get the best value for money! Thank you

Hi, you should contact the Lindo and any obstetricians to enquire about their latest fees but mine was c.£8.5k for Jasmine, £8.3k for Lindo and £1.5k for anaesthetics. So all in £19k. Ouch!

Thanks so much for getting back! And that sounds about right, but worth it? did you opt for a care package starting from 6 weeks or later?

I went as late as possible- I knew I wanted a private C section from the moment I POAS (third baby and two bad NHS births before that) but I didn’t need all the fanfare and constant checks. I stayed NHS til 36 weeks from memory, and then cancelled my final midwife appointment and moved to private. Probably outing if she sees this (hi!) but we met only twice I think before I had the baby.

Worth it? Yes. I had no doubts about my safety or that of baby, which was critical to me given the maternity care scandal in this country. I will say I didn’t enjoy the ELCS, I went in having sort of forgotten that it was major surgery. It wasn’t traumatic in the way of my other births but it wasn’t a walk in the park. But we were safe, had a private room, decent food, and when I thought I’d developed DVT a few days later I went back in and was seen within moments.
