Balloon Inductions

Has anyone ever went into labour naturally following a balloon induction?

I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant with my second. My first was 12 days over so I'm not expecting anything to happen anytime soon 😭. I'm not keen on induction so I'm booked in for a c section on 21st December (11 days over) should labour not start naturally before then. My midwife mentioned to me that my trust now offer balloon inductions. I'm thinking about requesting a balloon induction the day before my section to see if that helps labour start naturally but I'm not keen on my waters being broke or anything afterwards. Just really wanting to know if going into labour naturally after the balloon is possible or am I wasting my time 😂 thanks

@Babydo22 hi. I’m currently considering this option. Would you mind sharing what happened in the end for you? Hope you and baby are well x

Not me personally, but when I was an inpatient awaiting my own induction one of my bay mates had had a balloon induction, and went into labour only a few hours after insertion.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

@Dyra thank you so much for sharing! Good to hear that they can work. From what I’ve read, it sounds like it’s pretty common to get your waters broken after the balloon which I’m really not sure about

I had my waters broken after a balloon induction and that part was completely painless, far more so than getting it put in! I didn't really feel anything, and then I just kept laughing at how much liquid gushed out of me.

@addler thank you for sharing. Was the balloon induction successful for you?

I needed the drip to start things going- my previous pregnancy was 2 weeks overdue as well, I think I just make far too lovely a womb. It did end up in a c section, however that was due to some pretty horrendous treatment by the midwives I had, not from anything that was physically wrong with the labour.

I would just say don't start it at the end of the week like I did, staffing levels are shocking at the weekend. I had it put in on Thursday, out Friday, and waters broken Sunday because they couldn't get anyone to do it earlier. Then had midwives from a different hospital who didn't read any of my notes including the massive big heading saying SA victim don't do x, y, z.

So I would say ask to be induced at the start of the week!

@addler really sorry to hear that 😔 thank you for the advice xx

Sorry @KG1244 I've only just seen your post. In the end my waters broke naturally at 40 plus 2, however I had no contractions and ended up with an induction at 40 plus 5. The full experience was positive and my baby girl was burn within a few hours of the drip going on. Good luck x
