Post CS big tummy...is this normal?

Twelve weeks ago I had a CS, there were complications and it took them nearly 20 mins to get DD out...there was much pulling and tugging. Thankfully my LO is fine and I am loving being a first time mum.

I had put on very little extra weight during my pregnancy, and although I am watching what I eat I still have a rather large tum (my husband joked, "are you sure there isn't another one in there" HAR HAR...he's still alive..just)
The scar has healed well, but internally I am still quite tender.

Is this normal...GP wasn't very informative. Anybody else had this? and if so how long did it take to shift it

Err, yes, I'm afraid having a big tummy 12 weeks after your c-section is pretty standard. I looked 3 months pregnant for several months afterwards .

The good news is that you CAN shift it, but it will take the good old-fashoned methods of diet and exercise. I wouldn't try any sort of diet if you are breastfeeding, but after you stop you can do normal dieting - I have lost a stone recently doing an Atkins-type low carbs one.

Exercise is key to getting tummies under control. If you can't face (or don't have time for) joining a gym, try exercise DVDs at home. There are some specifically postnatal ones which are good for targeting tummy muscles.

Good luck - it will go eventually!

Thanks TF.....will source a good postnatal dvd and start leaping over the baby gym in the front room
