C Section at Rosie

Hey,

I’m having my first baby at The Rosie in Cambridge (had 2 at Lister already). It’s going to be a csection, but random question, do they do planned sections on set days/when are you given a date for the section by them? The care I’ve been getting atm is rubbish (worse than Lister) so I’m super worried.

Also trying to figure out when baby might come aha!

No experience with the Rosie but bumping for you. I had my first in Bedford but the care was so poor that I transferred to Lister for my second one (due next summer). I did think about the Rosie but it’s a bit further out for me so decided to go with Lister in the end. They are all very short staffed from what I’ve heard and so unfortunately the care provided is not the best. I don’t see why if you’ve chosen an ELCS they won’t prebook you as this is the standard way pretty much everywhere. You get seen by a consultant around 34-36 weeks and if they agree to the section you get called back with a date which is sometime during week 39. I don’t think you get to know the date of the section until a week or two before the actual surgery and you can get pushed to a different day if there are lots of EMCS. My second is most probably going to be an elective as my first labour was a EMCS so the above is what my midwife told me.
Is your community midwife not good either then?

hey, so i complained to PALS and a consultant called me yesterday and said i wouldn’t be given a date, i’d just be given a 2 week window that i’d have to be free around. i was like well i have 2 other children (that will be 2/3) by that time and for my MH i’d need to know a date or i just wouldn’t come in because of how terrified i am about hospitals.

tbh every team i speak to seems to think im a pro at doing this cause it’s 3rd baby, but the first 2 were covid babies. i feel like im getting somewhere slowly but tbh im under rosie and lister currently, might just be easier to stick to what i know 🤦🏼‍♀️ x

Wow this is so strange and the first time I’m hearing about no set date, all I’ve heard and read about is that they will try to do the planned c sections in week 39. Obviously the date they give you might change a bit closer to the time but at least you have some rough idea about the dates. If you also go into labour naturally and want to stick with the c section you will be treated as a priority over the planned sections on the day because you’ve gone into labour before your due date.
Were your previous labours natural or c sections?

first was emergency and second was planned due to trauma and ptsd. i have a low lying placenta this time, so im not really allowed to get to my waters breaking!

maybe not helpful but had a c section at luton & dunstable and the care was amazing.
I know someone who had a section at Rosie and didn't have the best experience but they were given a date.. this was a while ago though.

My Dd is 15 now but I had an elcc. Was given a date and time and there was a bit of a wait on arrival but all went smoothly. Delays are usually caused by emergencies so can be unpredictable.

I feel like I could have written this, did you eventually get a date, how far were you?

I'm 35 weeks today, been told will be between 37/38 weeks, so either week before or after Christmas, also have w kids to worry about .... I've spent most of my pregnancy in and out of hospital with infections in my blood. They have said I will need a gastro surgeon present, so I kind of thought considering it's not a normal C section I would know by now! Never felt so stressed!

When I was at lister I was told at 20 weeks for both children!

JLLWM · 07/12/2023 20:21

nope, no further with them so ive asked lister to book me in as a backup.

i really dont want to go back to lister but i mentally cant deal with not having a date!

Eurgh! It's an absolute joke! How they expect me to get childcare over Christmas week with 24 hours notice is shocking!
I really don't want to go back to Lister either!

MyCatIsPlotting · 08/12/2023 09:08

That’s awful and really surprises me. I had a ELCS at the Rosie in early 2020 and I was booked in for a specific date around 37 weeks - it felt super late but I also had no concerns I might labour early, just felt not ideal not to have the date earlier in terms of MH and knowing what was going on. I was also able to choose my date between about 39+1 and 40+10.

I can’t get over keeping a two week window free. What do they do, ring you and tell you to come in the next day? That’s bonkers, most people need some notice for surgery, someone to collect them from the hospital, arrangements to make for older children, etc.

I have to say, mine was a positive experience overall and the care was good.
