Elective C Section

I have had 2 previous PPH due to placenta taking a while to come away.. As soon as the placenta is delivered bleeding slows and everything has been okay. Would an elective c section make it less likely to happen again?

Thanks 😊

Depends what you are worried about?

If it's blood loss that you're trying to avoid then with a C-section then it will probably be around 750-1000ml loss.

How much did you lose with the pph?

Were you induced with previous births? That can increase chances of pph.

Did they manage the second pph differently to the first - as in were they ready to deal with it?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Currently I’m worried about everything. I have never been induced, my second labour was 1hr 55 minutes from first pain to giving birth.. I didn’t make it to hospital so there was nothing in place, to be completely honest the paramedics didn’t seem to know what to do.. My partner has to tell them the baby had been born and that I was bleeding all over the floor of the ambulance. It has been stressed right from the start that I would need an assisted 3rd stage of labour as fast as possible but what if I don’t get there again? 😩

Ok I have very short labours too, last one was 30 mins!

If you have a home birth service then utilise that as you will be far safer at home with two dedicated midwives than trying to make it to hospital.

Paramedics are really quite useless when it comes to birth so it's not a good experience to judge your next labour by.

Home birth midwives will be able to manage PPH at home, and if it progresses they will transfer you to hospital.

If you would like an ELCS then that's a good choice for you, but you certainly don't need to have one especially if the previous pph weren't extreme.
