I live about 20 minutes from James Cook Hospital and North Tees Hospital. We moved recently so I have no experience of the NHS in the area although everyone says James Cook is a good hospital for everything not just maternity and one of the best hospitals in the area.

Does anyone have any recent experience of childbirth at either? I'm a VBAC so probably not going to be allowed on the MLU.

i Was in exactly the same position as you. We live in Yarm. Went for James Cook- it has a better CQC report with the maternity unit rated as good with outstanding leadership. A rare find these days! The midwife at my booking appointment agreed with me and pretty much said it was the better hospital.

I should add that I didn’t actually give birth there in the end as I moved down to London for that. But I was consultant led so had all my antenatal care on-site and they were very good. Also happy to allow me to have an elective CS without medical indication if you happen to be looking for that.

I gave birth at North Tees. I didn't rate the care I received during labour but I had loads of support once on the postnatal ward.
There is also the midwife led unit at Hartlepool. I had great anti and postnatal care from the midwives there.
