I went 13 days over and had been trying all the usuals!!

Two days before i had dd i had the sweep and the day before i went for a longest walk i could manage before dh had to race me home in the car before i wet myself! lol i laugh now but i didn't on the journey - no public loos in sight!!
I had her the day before my booked induction and maybe the fear of that helped!

But seriously as everyone else says they come when they are ready.

I do sympathise with you though, but your little precious being will be with you very soon!

pupuce · 18/12/2004 09:04

Mosschops.... you have my sympathy but WHY would this baby come before its due date?????
Average gestational age is 41 weeks

bubsylocket · 18/12/2004 11:38

Mosschops - keep yourself extremely busy and have a blitz on your home, scrubbing cupboards, hoovering and ironing certainly brought on my labour and ended up having my dd a week early. My SIL did the same and had her ds 2 weeks early !!! Good luck !!

bunny2 · 18/12/2004 12:04

I went to term +13 and i tried nearly everything. Lots of sex (my poor Dh was exhausted), raspberry leaf tablets, loads of walking, a membrane sweep (when i was already 2cm). nothing worked had to be induced as consultant was making noises about baby being at risk and Dh was terrified

msann · 18/12/2004 13:02

i tried the castor oil.....it made me sick! .... & now i cannot stand the smell of any oil (cooking oils etc) ... the make me feel queasy!

Newbarnsleygirl · 18/12/2004 13:10

I believe I can help! I posted this on to another thread last week. YOU WILL NEED; DP OR SOMEONE ELSE TO DO THIS! On your toes you have a print like on your fingers, what you need to do is find the arch shape in the middle of your big toe, dp will need to press as hard as possible (yes it will hurt but that is good) with his thumb. Keep repeating this on both feet. The other one is to do the same but push the thumb upwards on the inside, middle part of your foot( the fleshy bit) My dp did this one afternoon then just before I went to sleep, 2 hours later I went into labour!!!!!! It makes your uterus contract and something else that I can't quite remember as it was 14 months ago!

slipper · 18/12/2004 18:14

God, I know just how you feel. Please let me know the answer if you find one. I had my 'show' this morning and have been having small, irregular contractions for 36 hours but my waters haven't broken and I'm not actually in labour yet. I'm desperate to get things moving! Thinking of you

mears · 18/12/2004 18:18

I would get Christmas out of the way first

motherinfestivemood · 18/12/2004 18:21

Babe, it isn't even your due date yet. Let it happen. Most babies do, in their own sweet time.

pupuce · 18/12/2004 19:57

A word of caution on castor oil..... it "only" works well if you have a favourable cervix - which you wouldn't know if you didn't have a vaginal examination done by a MW and to be honest before your due date that is unlikely !

CheekyGirl · 18/12/2004 21:37

Very much feel for you!! I am due 23rd Dec, and really would like it all 'done and dusted' by xmas day!!!
I am taking the homeopathic remedy caullophyllum which is said to soften the cervix. Fingers crossed. I had a stretch and sweep on Wed, and am fully effaced and 2-3cm dilated. Had a show yesterday morning followed by lots of twinges and..........NOTHING!!!! Am very annoyed!!!!! Everyone keeps phoning me to find out what's happening. Also very annoying!!
Seriously though, apart from bona fide medical techniques, I don't believe there's a lot that will start labour if it's not really ready!

slipper · 19/12/2004 07:36

I didn't realize there would be so many others ready to give birth at this time of year, don't know why but thought it was unusual. It's so hard, I've had a bad pregnancy from day one and so want to get to the finishing post! I really want my baby here for christmas- not ON christmas day mind! Argh! Thinking of us all xxx

slipper · 19/12/2004 09:10

CheekyGirl - I know just what you mean about other people asking all the time - it's doing my head in! Thank God my mother-in-law is abroad for xmas and New Year; she did however stress how much I am dissappointing her by having the baby whilst she's away. I've been pregnant for nine months and she booked her holiday 3 months ago! Needless to say I think she's mad as well as being my least favourite person in the world. Slipper xxx

brusselbeansprouts · 19/12/2004 10:25

I do understand how you feel as I also wanted to be at a birth centre but ended up being induced on EDD+15 at the hospital instead, which I was desperate to avoid. I tried every damn thing - walks, tea, sex, pineapple, accupuncture but it didn't happen. It's really frustrating when everyone says that the baby will come when it is ready but, despite my best efforts, that did seem to be the case. I know it's impossible to believe at this moment, but baby will be with you soon. (Well, sort of, he still didn't come and had to be yanked out by c-section but that's another story....!)

The vast majority go over their due date so, if you can, try and enjoy xmas and look forward to the most amazing gift in the new year? Good luck.

TwasTheNightBeforeCatbert · 19/12/2004 11:38

If you baby is fully engaged, or at least a long way down, you need to get the head banging on the cervix... It's the principal of sex, long walks and the membrane sweep too. If you midwife offers you one, it has to be "vigorous" (and therefore WILL hurt). Get or borrow a birthing ball, excercise all, or space hopper (!) and bounce up and down madly for AGES. Walk up and down your stairs sideways, really thumping as you go. If you go for a walk, it needs to be brisk!

Oh. And a large G&T. Don't know whether it's the gin or the tonic - but what the hell - have one anyway!

OnZephyrstdayofXmas · 19/12/2004 11:41

this sounds like me this time 3 years ago!! dd was overdue and i was desperate to get her out before xmas - tried everything you can imagine, no matter how stupid. Nothing. Went into labour and had her by caesarean on xmas day!!

bakedpotatohoho · 19/12/2004 11:44

same principle: bouncing over speed bumps is meant to get things going too

Dreams · 19/12/2004 20:55

Hi i took 2 big spoonfuls of castor oil as i was due to be induced (10 days over due) i took 1 spoonful in the morning then one mid afternoon that night i went to bed and woke up at 4am having contractions stood up and had a show and 16hrs later gave birth!! It worked for me!!!

Dreams · 19/12/2004 21:05

maybe mosschops30 has had her baby as she has not been back for a couple of days......oh i do hope so ......fingers crossed.

woodpops · 20/12/2004 13:43

I'm afraid the only thing that worked for me was the dreaded dead ............. SEX. DD was due on the 18th Dec but that came and went. I'd already been eating 2 pineapples a day since week 38 and nothing. I had 5 hot curries the week before and nothing. I was having 2 very, very hot baths a day. Poor dd must have felt like a boil in the bag fish. In the end I had to persuade dh into sex and that did it. dd was born on the 23rd Dec. Bless her she'll be 2 on Thursday. I can totally sympathise with you, this time 2 years ago I was waddling round like a beached whale, not feeling in the Christmas spirit one little bit and very wazzed off as I was overdue and dd was showing no sign of ever making an appreance.

vict17 · 20/12/2004 13:48

I had large gin and cranberry juice and went for a 3 mile walk - the next day labour started!!

jenm · 20/12/2004 20:05

Only do this if you are in the last stages of pregancy. Mix clary sage oil with base oil (you can get it at Boots or any aromatherapy shop). Mix in a couple extra drops than it says on the bottle. Rub into your bump a couple of times a day or even put some into a bath. It could take a couple of days but it does work. If that alone doesn't work along with it drinking raspberry leaf tea (at any health food shop) and some frankincense oil.
