Don't want to sound like a diva...but

Those that have had c sections in the past, when you were on your own in hospital did you manage, with feeding, changing the newborn nappies, comforting bub on your own.

I am planning on a section and as I have a DC my husband plans to go home in the evening for teatime/bedtime. I had my DC in lockdown and was very lucky that DH was locked in the hospital with me 24/7, so did a lot to help. I remember the getting in and out of bed with DC to feed quite hard, but will it be ok and will the nurses be able to help if I really struggled with something?

I got loads of help both times from the mws and I really needed it.

No help, didn't ask for it, and didn't need it. I was given some of those post surgery redovery shorts and they were amazing, held everything in and minimised thr discomfort, they were just a pain to get up and down!

No help. Despite the c section and having twins. Husband wasn’t allowed to stay. I left 26 hours after arriving as l knew l would get better care at home. Plus it was very hot and noisy which l can’t stand on wards

KombuchaKalling · 17/01/2024 21:52

Oh and l don’t think you need to worry about being a diva. It is major surgery. I doubt when people have surgery they have start immediately caring for another person (or 2 if it’s twins!). Usually they get to rest and recuperate

I had loads of help. I had to ask for it but they were amazing. I pushed the buzzer and they handed me the baby and changed its nappy for me. I couldn’t have been more grateful.

Agree with PP who said the thread was heartbreaking. This thread shows us just how appallingly underresourced and unsafe much of the NHS maternity service is, plus how some staff think they can speak to new mothers, (whether or not they are able to help them due to other demands on their time), and how our family will move heaven and earth to get private maternity care for the next generation (we're not rich, so this won't be easy) as there is no sign of this getting better any time soon.

The postnatal ward I was on was “fully staffed” with 4 m/w on a 36 bed ward.

if there were c-sections one would have to go and deal with mum and baby, so often only 3.

so no, no help. No one responding to buzzer, they had their hands full doing obs/with the sicker babies.

dd had gbs so they came round for hourly obs on her, but not changing nappies or coming in just to hand me the baby.

It really depends where you I guess. It’s like some people get stronger pain relief etc
