I don't drive, dh is away - how do I get to hospital when I'm in labour?

Dh is away until Sunday, and after a night of twinges, I am worrying about how to get to hospital (I am 37 weeks). In all of my other labours I have gone into labour in the middle of the night, and this one seems to be following a similar pattern at the moment.

What is the policy on getting ambulances? Will a taxi take me?

I'm sure (I hope ) that the twinges won't come to anything, but I have suddenly realised that I don't have a back up plan on how to get to hospital.

I didn't exactly intend to get pg with no 5, but now I am, no 6 doesn't seem so bad....

(dh is insisting on the snip though )

Pollyanna - was yr mouth out about the 6th, it might be twins! secondly, if you still have placenta praevia - you should ring an ambulance as it is an emergency. Thirdly, if you get really stuck, you have my mob..call me, me or dh would get to you to hosp xx

Pollyanna · 06/03/2008 20:16

mabs I haven't got PP anymore! My placenta moved 15 cm in about a week! (my belly is huge!!).

People do keep asking me if it's twins...

thanks for the offer of driving me - I really hope nothing happens until dh gets back!

We had to call an ambulance when I was having DS2 as I hadn't done any revision and forgot that an increasingly irresistible urge to push meant the baby was about to be born .

They were fine about it - no problem at all. And the flashing lights were exciting.

My sister used to work the 999 calls and now is a paramedic.

She says phone an ambulance.
