I am currently 40+3.. ultimately I'm just a little bit fed up!

First was born at 41+1, induced with the balloon & hormone drip.. it felt like the longest day of my life!

I had a sweep on Tuesday, lost my mucus plug Tuesday night & Wednesday morning & have been positively waiting for some more signs to come along... they don't seem to be arriving. Apart from the odd period pain, nothing else has really happened so far.

Please give me all your positive stories about losing your mucus plug & going in to natural labour🤞🏻

Many thanks, a very tired mummy!

I don’t have any positive stories but wanted to tell you you’re not alone. I’m 40+5 with my second.
first was born at 41+1 after a Propess induction which was really positive.
I had a sweep yesterday but haven’t lost any mucus plug or anything so I feel a bit hopeless!
i haven’t had much happen either so far but just wanted to tell you to hang in there. It’s so hard but hopefully we will have our little ones soon.

firsttimetry23 · 28/09/2023 16:22

@Pinklilly
Oh I'm so glad I've found someone feeling the same!
Keep going mama 💪🏼
Have you been booked for an induction?

OP posts:
Pinklilly · 29/09/2023 08:59

@firsttimetry23 yep I’m booked for one on Saturday providing they have capacity. Still Propess so have that and wait 24 hours and pray it works.
my trust normally do it at 41+4 but because I have hyperemesis and still feel sick they are allowing me to do it at 41. It’s scary to know if you’re making the right decision.

how about you, do you have a plan?

firsttimetry23 · 29/09/2023 09:50

@Pinklilly

Oh good I'm glad you're booked in soon!
Yes I am booked in on Monday. I'll be 41 exactly then too. They haven't said how they will induce but I had the balloon last time.

I've still been having lots of signs that they may make their appearance naturally.. but then it disappears.. I think I'm just being teased! Haha!

@firsttimetry23 I hope everything goes well on Monday if you get there!
I lost my mucus plug yesterday and I was hoping it would lead to something but nothing has happened.
these little signs you’ve been having sound really promising- fingers crossed for you.

im trying to remember that the end of pregnancy is a baby not necessarily a perfect birthing experience and so I need to be flexible to accommodate changes as long as everyone is healthy.

DC1 48 hrs start to finish, 28 hours active labour. Ventouse and forceps in theatre.

DC2 about an hour of actual labour pains, 11 minutes active labour. Waters had broken a few hours before so I was already in hospital because waters had green in them. Luckily!

Basically DC2 just fell out.

Good luck!

flightless55 · 29/09/2023 10:27

Hey, I'm only 36 weeks but after a very rough first labour im hoping for an easier time this time!

I do hope it's a little longer than an hour of pains because I wouldn't make it to hospital in time haha !

firsttimetry23 · 29/09/2023 15:23

Oh I think I would quite like if he just 'fell out' 😂!

Hopefully not much longer for us all 🤞🏻

2nd was a breeze. Didn't even realise I was in labour most of the day. On and off contractions from the morning. Then suddenly dawned on my at 7.30pm that this might be it. Husband convinced me to go to the birth centre to be checked out at 8pm. Ds was born 55 minutes later!

Expecting 3rd in a few weeks and decided on a home birth this time around 🤞.

Good luck to you. Just remember to stay as relaxed as possible.

Cleotheclimber · 29/09/2023 18:46

DD2 was 1 week early and first sign of labour was losing mucus plug. I lost it about midday and contractions started at about 7pm. She arrived about 2pm the following day. All good no complications!

good luck op!!!!

firsttimetry23 · 29/09/2023 21:38

Thank you all! It gives me hope reading your comments and knowing you've all had some great experiences!

I'm still getting the odd period pain, lost LOTS of mucus plug over the last few days & last night I felt sick all night long, hoping it's my body getting ready. 🤞🏻

First labour was long and horrible and needed interventions. Second labour was fast and I nearly didn't make it to the hospital because it didn't feel bad enough. Turns out my long unproductive labour was just as painful as my super fast, no need to push because I'm coming out whether you like it or not second baby!

Fingers crossed its much easier this time op, hope you don't have to wait too long to find out.

KylieKangaroo · 29/09/2023 21:45

Good luck OP! With my second I lost my plug on the Sunday and baby didn't arrive until 4 days later. I had 3 days of on and off contractions then as soon as my waters broke she was out within a couple of hours. All very speedy once it gets going!

Pinklilly · 01/10/2023 00:44

@firsttimetry23 so it happened! 41 weeks and oh my gosh it was fast! We’ve had a little girl and she just flew out- we arrived at the hospital and 20 mins later she was here. So I didn’t need induction in the end.
hope you’re hanging in there!

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 01/10/2023 00:53

My first labour I similarly had a pitocin drip, and a whole world of agony. I literally wanted to die, I was so exhausted and in so much pain. I chipped a tooth from clenching against the contractions! Significant tear, horrid stitches… the works.

My second labour: gentle contractions started completely on their own. I was still able to bring my DD for a hair cut and have a nice day out with her through several hours of intermittent contractions. We went to the hospital around 3pm, DS was born around 6pm I think, after only 3 minutes (!) of pushing, and no perineal tearing whatsoever. Is it weird to admit that the contractions actually felt nice for the first few hours? I felt a bit of tightening but mainly a warm rush of oxytocin, like the warm and fuzzy feeling I sometimes got from breastfeeding. We were home by 11pm. I hope you have a similar experience!

firsttimetry23 · 01/10/2023 03:46

@Pinklilly
Oh my goodness! So so happy for you! Huge huge congratulations!
I am now 40+6 and hoping to follow your suit! But if not then I do have induction booked tomorrow.
I'm once again awake at 3.45am - needing to poo & some very mild cramping.

Congratulations again! 🥹🥹

@UpToMyElbowsInDiapers that sounds like a dream labour! 😍

OP posts:
Lizbiz89 · 01/10/2023 08:52

@UpToMyElbowsInDiapers yes my contractions felt like that for the most part of the labour right up until an hour or two before I had my 2nd. Hoping my 3rd goes the same way.

BurningBenches · 01/10/2023 10:31

My eldest was a rubbish induction at 42wks. Not hugely long but horrible and left with a 3rd degree tear and episiotomy and minor pph.

My second, came at 41+3 after I think the 3rd sweep. I had a sweep at about 10am, was in labour by midday and she was born at 8am the following morning. Actual proper labour started around 1am, waters broke at 2.

My 3rd, 4th and 5th were all induced. 3rd was at 42wks (i had fully expected to go over 40wks but I cannot tell you how gutted I was to get to 42wks and induction again), they broke my waters and she was born 2hrs later. 4th was at 40wks due to his large size (and experience had told me I would end up being induced at 42wks if I waited) his took longer to get going but actual labour was 6hrs. I had the drip again with him but unlike DC1 I had the epidural in before I consented to them starting it. Lovely labour!
Dc5 was induced at 41wks as I was over 40. Another waters broken and baby in 2hrs.
My hospital Trust were seemingly very relaxed about me going overdue as nearby trusts didn't allow 40+ women to go over 40wks.

I totally remember the feeling of going to the wire everytime, hoping that I'd go spontaneously, and whilst I do still wish that had been the case, my subsequent inductions were all straightforward and fine.

All the best for today/tomorrow!

firsttimetry23 · 01/10/2023 19:08

Unfortunately still no movement for me. Looks like I'll be going for induction, just waiting on the hospital giving me a time.

Thank you all so much for your stories! I have loved reading them!
