VBAC - Which Private Consultant Would You Recommend....

I must be certifiable, but my husband and I are strongly considering having another baby. As the twins' birth was such a fiasco (emergency c-section under GA with hideous healing complications afterwards) I've decided that I want to try for a VBAC. Quite simply, I'm terrified of having another caesarean, although I realise that I can't rule it out. The best laid plans and all that. But I'd love to avoid it if I can.

I've decided to go down the private route and the two hospitals that are in the frame are The Lindo Wing at St. Mary's and C&W. What I'm looking for is a VBAC-friendly consultant. Someone who will support my efforts to avoid a c-section but also someone who will, after my last rollercoaster experience, look after me and take on board my fears.

Does anyone have any recommendations? It's a long shot as I have to get pregnant first and, more than that, we have to decide whether we really are ready for it. A huge part of me is absolutely terrified as I'm still completely traumatised by the last time, so it's quite a big leap. But if there is a consultant out there who fits the frame then it would be good to have names and ideas.

Thanks in advance.

I would say try to go midwifery led if it is possible to do that in a private hospital as if you have a private consultant you are far more likely to have a cs. Obviously if you have a singleton you are much more likely to be successful. Hope it works out for you, I remember your thread about your section.

I wouldn't go MW led personally (based on my experience at C&W, which was fine but I did not feel in the hands of experts)- and to be honest they probably wouldn't let you for a VBAC at Chelsea (and I don't think they have a MW led service at Lindo). I know many people who have had private OBs at C&W, Portland and other places and nearly all had natural deliveries. However I'm afraid I can't recommend one specifically for VBACs as I have no experience of it. But you have to be classified "low risk" to go for private midwifery at C&W and a VBAC I suspect doesn't fall within that. There's a general thread on here where people talk a lot about good experiences with private doctors but VBAC doesn't come up on it. But you could try calling up and asking - have you tried calling the ward at C&W/Lindo and asking if any OBs have particular speciality/experience maybe? I am sure many do. St John & Lizzies may be a bit more geared to it but it may not suit you there for other reasons - the lack of real emergency facilities put me off. Sorry not to be much help but hope you find the right OB for you. Good luck.
