Birth experience after PPH?

First baby - Spontaneous labour at 40+2 with mild PPH which was controlled in the room and no concerns - I was discharged the next day

Second baby - Induced due to high BP at 38+2 with no intervention, however, significant PPH and had to go under GA due to a hematoma (a very quick labour)

Due our third in February 2024 and have been advised by the midwife I'll be "watched like a hawk" however, I am petrified that I will have another PPH. I am on aspirin to help my BP so fingers crossed I can avoid an induction which would be one positive.

If you experienced PPH with any births and went onto another, how was it?

Hi 😊

I had a significant PPH with my first- very long traumatic labour.

I had my second 5 weeks ago now. Initially was opting for a c-section but ended up delivering vaginal after induction.

Was terrified of having another PPH and like you say the midwives/consultant were prepared and were on it. However, no PPH this time, a normal amount of blood loss and recovered well, feeling great now 5 weeks post party. Didn't feel right for a good few months after my first and ended up on iron tablets for quite a while.

Best of luck, sure you'll be fine 🩷

Had a PPH first time due to retained placenta, was losing blood so quickly that I had to have the placenta removed under GA as there wasn’t time for a spinal.

Second time round was totally fine and I had no PPH.

How close are you to the hospital? The key thing for me was knowing I could get there as soon as labour started. I also wanted to avoid interventions as apparently induction, c section etc can increase the risk of PPH.

To be honest I do also have my suspicions on whether the first PPH was partly caused by an over enthusiastic midwife who mismanaged the removal of the placenta but I’ll never know for sure!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences as I know it's not easy.

@Pink Pamplemousse I'm so glad you had a lovely birth this time round and are feeling well. Congratulations on the birth of your baby! Enjoy your bubble.

@bluegreenandcoral Wow that must have been tough and I'm delighted all was well the second time. I was very shocked when I had to go under GA... you feel very odd afterwards. We are about 25 minutes away on a good day (live in Edinburgh so traffic can be crazy some days and fine the other).

Had PPH with my first after a forceps delivery, for my second they out a cannula in when I was admitted just incase but absolutely fine. First was induction and second spontaneous so not sure if that made a difference.

Thank you @Percypiglover! My PPH was much worse after being induced so I'm with you on a possible connection...
