If you had a fast induction with your first, what was your second labour like?

Hey! Really just looking for some kind of insight as to how labour might go (which I realise you can never actually guess ha)
with my first I was induced at 39 weeks due to reduced movements.
3 pessaries across 24 hours then my waters went within 30 mins of the third gel & he was born 7 hours later. According to my midwife this is quick for a first labour & induction.
he was back to back & we needed forceps unfortunately and an episiotomy (honestly one of my biggest fears as it was horrendous to heal from due to awful ongoing infections after ripped stitches on day 3!)

im 30 weeks with my 2nd & wondering how my labour might go if we manage to go naturally this time so would love to hear some stories.

im also nearly 10 years apart between labours of that has any bearing!

thank you in advance x

I would advise check out the birthing course. Positive Birth Company. That helped me loads. Despite LO being back to back I used the course information and was able to turn LO last minute and have a natural birth and unassisted.

The problem is when your on your back this increases the risk of interventions. Upright and forward and moving is the way to go. If you have no medical emergencies that is. But if your pregnancy is fine no complications upright and moving is the way to go.

No induction for the second one. Had an epidural, but it was very calm, progressed normally. She was born very quickly at the end - I had flu, and had a massive coughing fit and she just shot out, to the surprise of the midwife, despite me saying that the baby was coming. It was a much better experience.

Ive heard that second babies are the easiest labours and this was definitely the case for me. After a fairly quick induction for my first , my second was 5 days over but came like lightning. I was 8cm by the time I got to hospital and he was born shortly after. I thought that my third would be similar but he had other ideas! Good luck at this exciting time 🥰

Thank you everyone!

I am closely monitored & well looked after due to a “significantly bad obstetric history” as my MW put it.

@MixedCouple thank you I’ll have a look!

2 inductions , 2 hour active labour and 1 hour active labour.

DC1: Induction, one pessary, 4 hour labour. DC2 spontaneous 2 hour labour. Strongly advised by the midwife who delivered DC2 that in future I should opt for home birth (2 DC is plenty for me though!)

Thanks both!

so hoping to avoid induction this time & would be much happier with a faster natural go at things.

my biggest fear in all honesty is another episiotomy. I’m more scared of that than ending up with a section!

1st one was induced. Pessary at 9pm, in agony by 11. Pethidine to help me sleep a bit, checked at 7am and told 10cm, born at 9.20am.

2nd was natural. First contractions about 11pm. Popped to hospital 5am, born 8.30. Dead easy!

I was induced with my first- ended up with the drip and Labour was about 4hrs once it finally got started and ended with forceps and an episiotomy. Second DC 4 years later - went into Labour naturally(waters broke) and DC was born 2.5hrs later. Barely any stitches and physical recovery a lot easier.

First: sweep, two pessaries, little bit of water breakage. In for drip and rest of waters broken, needed an epidural as back to back, she got stuck and ended up being a ventouse with an episiotomy. She was two weeks overdue! I did feel I was thrown through that birth, my husband and I were quite traumatized by it, particularly the epidural. They couldn't get it in for 25 minutes and it took 6/7 attempts.

Second: spontaneous rupture of membranes two days before due date, some contractions but unfortunately they stopped. I had to have the drip again which I was devastated by. BUT!!! This time they upped the dosage much more gradually. I actually snoozed through a lot of the contractions. Once I was dilated I managed to push him out in 10 mins with some gas and air. I was on my back with my legs curled up tilting my hips. It was magical. I was so glad not to have the epidural (though they said if I needed it they could actually turn it off for the pushing. I didn't know this was possible).

It was a different hospital the second time and honestly a thousand times better.
