Planned C Section 37+3

Hello,

I'm due to have baby number 2 next week at 37+3 due to reduced movements. She's measuring on 85th centile on growth scans and they're not anticipating any concerns once she's born but I'm worried she will need assistance and care once born as it's before 38/39 weeks as it would have been originally planned. They are expecting us to be home within 24 hours.

Any positive stories of babies coming at this gestation via C-section?

I’ve got APS and had GD too so both of mine were elective sections at 37 weeks. In for 5 nights with the first and 6 nights with the second. Both fine at birth, good APGAR, no breathing issues. Both then developed jaundice, which is very common anyway but I’m rhesus negative and they are positive so it was another risk factor. Baby 2 got jaundice twice and needed nicu for it, baby 1 manages just in a light box next to me. Both were above 95th centile. Stressful at the time but quickly resolved and now forgotten about.

I had my son via section at 37+3 as he was a footling breech, like you I was worried, however he was born an average 6lb6 and other than ever so slightly jaundice he was fine.

We were sent home 2 days later, only kept me in an extra day because of feeding issues. 🙂

My daughter was born at 37+1 by elective section. She needed a few hours of breathing support in the NICU but we were told we were unlucky for this to be needed - many babies born at this gestation don't. She stayed 2 nights in NICU in the end for low blood sugar. Feeding was difficult especially in the first few weeks as she was so sleepy, so we had to wake her every 3 hours. However she is now an absolutely thriving 2.5 year old!
