Granulation tissue 3rd degree tear

Hi everyone,

My son was born 6 weeks ago, I had an internal 3c tear and was stitched in theatre.

Although I was initially a bit upset about it, I actually think the recovery has been better than when I had DS1 which was an episiotomy, I think because this was internal so I didn't really have pain with the stitches.

Everything feels good, pelvic floor even feels quite a bit stronger than it did before.

Only one problem, I can see something on the inside, kind of at the opening that the doctor at my 6 week check has just told me is granulation tissue. She said it's normal, won't ever disappear, but another 6 weeks before I'm fully recovered and do pelvic floors.

She said silver nitrate isn't necessary as that's only for 'raw skin'? I've read other Mumsnet posts discussing a cream to use but I have no idea what it is or what it's for? Any advice/positive stories please?

I'm glad the tear resolved mostly well and that your pelvic floor is rebounded! Sounds like a good outcome.

I had granulation tissue around my vaginal entrance after a second degree tear. Intercourse itself felt mostly fine but the 'putting it in' (sorry, don't know how to describe it delicately!) was agony. My GP did 2 or 3 sessions with silver nitrate that took 5 minutes each and then the problem was resolved. Do you have any pain? If there's any discomfort there I'd insist with your GP - silver nitrate isn't costly or time-consuming. If it's just a bit unsightly though, you might struggle to convince her.

Not sure about home treatments, sorry.

Thank you for your reply @UnwieldyRhombus. I don't have any day to day pain but haven't tried sex yet... I'm not really in a rush other than I'd like to know if there is any pain or not so I know where things stand.

I was trying to work out from Google if silver nitrate is used for granulation tissue or over granulation, and it was a bit confusing. I suppose I need to give it another 6 weeks, continue with pelvic floors and see what the situation is then? I have self referred to phyiso at the hospital so it will be interesting to see what they say.

I hope you don't mind me asking this, but did silver nitrate completely resolve it so now you can't see anything there?

I had over granulation that felt sore and bumpy. The GP used silver nitrate and dealt with it in one go. It was a bit sore afterwards but the tissue went completely. I think if I'd ignored it it would've proven annoying and got sore. Maybe see someone else for another opinion x
