Transverse baby c-section questions

Hi, this is my third pregnancy and my baby is lying side-ways. If my baby doesn't turn head down by the time I'm full term I've been told I will need a C-section. I made peace with it, but recently I read on a medical website that for transverse babies they can cut the incision vertically or "traditionally" (in the middle of the stomach). I'm very worried now, I want to have more children and I ended up having a cesarean I'd like to try VBAC next time, but if they don't cut me horizontally on the bikini line that won't be an option for me 😥. If you had a cesarean due to a baby in the transverse presentation, what type of incision did the surgeon do??

I had a c section due to my baby being big and transverse. They were able to do a normal c section and I had a small line scar on my bikini line. I think the best thing to do would be to speak to the midwife about it and she will be able to give you updated advice. I read online during my pregnancies and it just made me worry so much more.

My second was transverse and large. They did the usual horizontal incision, couldn't get her out and so did a second small vertical incision in order to manoeuvre her and deliver her breech. It's called an inverse t incision.

I lost quite a bit of blood (but didn't need a transfusion) and DD needed a little help to get going but by the time we left theatre we were both absolutely fine.

It does mean I can't have a vbac but as it was my second section and we aren't planning another that's moot.

All you can do is speak to your surgeon - presumably the baby's position and size will influence their decision.

I had an emergency c-section a month ago on baby #4 due to him turning transverse in labour. They cut me neatly across my bikini line

normal cs scar for me

The scar on the outside and the scar on the uterus can be completely different (will still usually be a pfannenstiel incision even if they’ve done something funky on the uterus). Best bet is to speak to the surgeon.

I had a baby in tranverse position and a j shaped incision due to this and my placenta being low lying but a normal c section scar as the incision was only internally. I did need to have a c section with my next baby though due to this.

Thanks for all your replies! I'm relieved to hear that normal bikini line cuts are possible even with a transverse baby. This is something I'll aks my surgeon and midwife when I have chance on my next appointment. Maybe I need to stop browsing on Dr Google 😂

Yep, turned transverse in labour and normal scar.

BrutusMcDogface · 14/08/2023 19:31

Same with me- transverse baby and normal cut/scar 😊

Amonthinthecountry · 14/08/2023 19:33

Normal scar for me too.

Both of mine were transverse (and both were back to front 🙄), both C-sections were small, neat and horizontal within the bikini bottom zone.
