Is there a most common week for labour to start?

OK, ok, I'm clutching at straws now but just wondered if there was a week in pregnancy where the majority of babies were born i.e. between due date and 41 weeks.

It says in my baby book that 45% of babies are undelivered on their due date and most of these go in the next week.

So does that mean that the majority of babies are actually born before their due date?

I doubt in my late pregnancy haze that any of this makes sense.

It makes sense, but I would have said that far more women deliver at 41 - 42 weeks than before 40 weeks.

Here's a vote for due date-41wks. Mine was 6 days late.

MrsTittleMouse · 28/02/2008 13:41

I was told that for first babies, you can basically add a week to the due date, as they are so often late. I don't know whether that's just because the MWs don't want a lot of first-time mums hassling them on the due date though (or to save the sanity of the mum herself!).

I agree with BB However all 3 of mine were born naturally at 39+4.

MissingMyHeels · 28/02/2008 13:43

In my book it says 58% of women will have delivered by EDD.

scorpio1 · 28/02/2008 13:44

week 39 for me!

Lulumama · 28/02/2008 13:45

41 + usually.....

only 5 % of babies will be born on their EDD. it is estimated and based on a 28 day cycle, with conception on dy 14, and not many people fit that category...

MerlinsBeard · 28/02/2008 13:46

how long is a piece of string?

iwouldgoouttonight · 28/02/2008 13:48

39 weeks for me too.

Pollyanna · 28/02/2008 13:48

3 of my 4 have come at 41 weeks.

Lulumama, I am too dense to work this out, but if I had a 25 day cycle and conceived at day 18 would that make me earlier or later than the EDD (worked out on the 28 day/day14 days)

Lulumama · 28/02/2008 13:50

later i think ! but not by much... i thikn in france your EDD is 41 weeks... so much emphasis on taht one date..and few women deliver on it!

spugs · 28/02/2008 13:54

both of mine were 40 +1

antinea · 28/02/2008 14:26

I read somewhere that 80% of first babies are late. So if your due date is today - like mine is. just find something to do to take your mind off.

T2M · 28/02/2008 15:03

Agree with Lulumama 5% come on actual due date, 38% on average come before due date and 57% after. The average date for 1st time mums is 40+10. So which catogary you full into is anybodys guess. What does my head in is when the EDD date changes due to a scan and groweth size aghhhhhhh

marchbunny · 28/02/2008 15:50

2 of mine came on due dates, 3rd came on scan due date (which was a week earlier than my lmp date) but I suppose I could have ovulated earlier. I like to deliver to order. So 39 - 40 weeks for me.

KKx · 25/03/2008 21:15

DS came on due date. Every1 thought I would go much sooner as my tummy skin was stretched it it's max, with not a mm to pinch. My tummy went square shape it was that solid, 9ld 2oz boy came out
