Norfolk & Norwich Consultant recommendations for ELCS please

I am pregnant with our second child and, having given birth by ELCS in London with our first (our daughter was breech & I have an underlying medical condition), we are now looking into an elective caesarean to deliver our second, where we now live, in Norfolk.

Does anyone have any personal recommendations of excellent consultants at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital who specialise in and have a great reputation for performing C-Sections please? Also, any consultants we should be aware of who you wouldn’t recommend?

I would also really appreciate hearing about any recent C-Section birth experiences at the NNUH, including what the after-care is like.

Thank you so much in advance for any help and advice! 😀

Are you looking to use a private hospital? I don't think you get to choose your consultant in an NHS hospital like the Norwich and Norfolk??

@Sluj @CorBlimeyGovnr Thank you for your messages. According to the consultant I have seen at NNUH during my first appointment there, I can request a particular consultant, although they wouldn’t be guaranteed. I would definitely consider private if need be… but don’t know anything about the consultants at NNUH so would love to find out more.

Did you have any luck with this?

Pigeonqueen · 20/12/2023 07:41

Do not go to the NNUH. Awful hospital. You won’t get a particular consultant. They just tell you that. I’ve got complex health needs and have had several procedures done there including an elective section. To be fair the section was one of the better experiences I’ve had but I still nearly died due to complications they missed. Go anywhere but there.

That sounds awful, I don’t know how much choice there is around these things? I just found out I’m unexpectedly pregnant. Have never considered getting pregnant so am pretty clueless about the whole thing. Sounds horrendous!

I just wanted to jump back on here as we have now had our gorgeous baby at the Norfolk & Norwich (NNUH) and thought it might be helpful to share our experience there for anyone else who might be considering giving birth there.
In a nutshell, and to our great relief, we found that the care at the NNUH was absolutely brilliant from start to finish - from the antenatal check ups, to the birth itself, as well as the postnatal care on the Blakeney Ward. I actually ended up going into labour 2 weeks early, and ahead of the ELCS so had our DS via EMCS in the early hours, and the theatre team and our midwife on duty were fantastic. I feel extremely grateful to all the amazing staff there, and can honestly say that our experience there was a million times better than when we had our first baby at a different hospital.

@JenNorwich79 I hope all goes well with your pregnancy and birth wherever you choose. 🙏🏼

I'm glad it went well op.

I had both of my dc via emcs at the nnuh and after experiencing birth trauma with my first (nothing to do with my care, it was a lot of bad luck), I was allowed to request my consultant care and I was seen by that consultant and he delivered my baby. He was recommended to me as absolutely brilliant with birth trauma and he was seriously, the most understanding and kind man.

ShowOfHands · 14/01/2024 16:56

And just to add, everything was brilliant. Postnatal care was exemplary and every single member of staff was lovely.

My dad is also under nnuh for several complex health conditions and DD sees three departments for ongoing care, plus had recent surgery there. Can't fault them at all.

That’s so wonderful to hear you had a really positive experience too @ShowOfHands ☺️

@Butterfly2022 sorry to bother you! Just wondering if you chose your consultant/have one to recommend?

Did you find them accepting of your wish for ELCS?
