Being induced after natural birth then c section

Just that really ... I'm booked in for Tuesday, never been induced before so don't know what to expect. Am I going to end up with an emergency section or are the chances of it working high?

I think that from what I read the chance of intervention is higher when you're induced. That could mean ventouse, forceps, C-Section. But of course there's no way to know in advance. You are also perfectly within your right to ask for an elective section (no surprises then) or refuse the induction (if you think it's safe not to have it). I had an elective section and it was very calm and peaceful and a lovely birth experience. My recovery was quick. But I know that isn't the case for everyone.

i was induced & had no further intervention so it can happen.

I was induced last year and had a vaginal birth. It was long. Started the process Wednesday morning and gave birth Saturday afternoon. My sister on the other hand was in and out in 24 hours.

I'm due my second via induction on Wednesday. Nervous! But opting for the epidural right away this time if possible and also hired a TENS machine for the pain!

I’m trying for a VBAC and going to try to avoid an induction until last possible moment

Nellle · 22/07/2023 20:14

I had an emergency CS after a failed induction. Pregnant with my second and my only "birth plan" is a hard no to induction. I'm certain it'd result in another EMC. So, I'll either go into labour naturally or have an elective.

But that's just me. My opinion is definitely coloured by being induced before and seeing how my body reacted.

all depends on reason for IOL, gestation, health issues, position of baby, what hospital you’re at, etc. there’s more chance of having a successful vaginal birth than a CS however

SSimp24 · 22/07/2023 20:20

@onlyamam I didn't want another section (had elective last time) obviously if I have too then it is what it is but ideally want a natural birth. As easy as it was I don't cope well with the after math of being stuck in bed. Everything else I'm fine but I really struggled with that last time.

@watersprites thankyou :)

@justanothermanicmonday1 I'm sorry yours was so long, I was booked in with my eldest but had her the night before. I really don't want to be stuck in hospital for a long time so hoping it's quick. Due to go in Tuesday evening 🤞🏻

@Hollyppp they don't want me to go overdue. To be honest neither do I. I can't cope any longer. I have too much pain now. Sort of wishing I had booked an elective section so I knew how long the process would be etc but really don't want to be away from my other two for long but 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Nellle I completely get where you're coming from, I don't blame you to be honest as it sounds you didn't have the best experience. I suppose you don't know until you try. I don't know anyone who has had a section then VBAC only people who have been induced for their view.

Will keep you all updated regardless ☺️

@Mummyme87 I'll be 39+4 when I go to be induced, baby has been head down for a good 4 weeks or so.

I have an EMCS first time, then a VBAC with IOL second time. Had lots of complications with both, but was still the right decision. I’m pregnant again and will have another VBAC and likely induced

justme2022 · 22/07/2023 20:30

Chances of invention is higher but I've had 2 inductions without any further intervention. First one was 26 hours. Second was just over 8. With the second my waters had broken but they wanted him out quickly because of meconium.

LostMySocks · 22/07/2023 20:40

I had a VBAC. Was due to be induced because of my age. For VBACs I was told that they use a balloon induction as it is more gentle.
Turns out I didn't need inducing as DS decided he was cooked and I was dilated when they examined me before the induction

hotcheeto · 22/07/2023 20:49

I was induced and progressed fairly quickly for a first birth. I had the pessary at 2pm and my water broke at 11pm. I was 3cm by 6am when I was taken to the delivery suite and had the drip as they suspected light meconium in my water. Epidural around 12pm and was fully dilated and ready to push at 6pm. Unfortunately I did have a section after failed forceps, as when I pushed my baby had heart decels. I do think the induction led to the interventions to be honest. His head was low but still too far up to wait out pushing with the way his heartbeat was going.

Sadly I didn't have a great deal of choice as I had a PE and was on blood thinners so was encouraged to be induced so I could be closely monitored. Also had static growth towards the end so it was doubly encouraged.

Although next time I am very, very keen to avoid induction, I would rather be monitored daily and go naturally. If that isn't possible I will go for an elective section. The hormone drip before my epidural was the stuff of nightmares.

I was induced for both pregnancies and had no further intervention for either.
