Hi all, I’ve been booked in for an induction on Monday due to high blood pressure. I’ll be 38+4 weeks.

I thought I would be fine with this but now I’m really scared, scared it won’t work, scared of the pain, scared of being alone on the ward with no DH (he can visit up to 10pm).

This is my first baby, please can I have some positive stories 😭

Hi OP! That sounds like my story, I also was induced due to high BP! My labour from the first twinge to delivery was about 15 hours and was a smooth and successful birth. I too prior to being induced was terrified and was on every forum going seeking advice. There are instances where is doesn’t work first time but then there are lots of successful stories, much like mine. I managed on just gas and air the whole labour. If I can do it anyone can! I would be induced again if necessary. I trusted in the process and kept a really positive mindset and I honestly think it helps. I zoned into my midwife and listened to what they said and kept thinking the end result is worth it and my gosh is it ❤️ nothing will beat you meeting your baby for the first time, try and soak in the feeling! Yes of course childbirth is painful but honestly when the time comes you just crack on and do it! There are options available for pain relief but you’ll be amazed by your bod! It’s choking me up thinking about the experience you’re about to have cos nothing beats it (IMO haha). Feel free to message me if you want to talk! Xx

Oh and to add I actually found post birth harder, specifically my first number 2 😂 so if do want some solid advice make sure you take some
stool softeners so it is easier for you when the time comes. I wish someone had told me that x

I had an induction at 40 weeks due to GD. Straightforward, started at 6pm and he arrived at 2am. No pain relief and couldn’t feel contractions. It can definitely go well!

I had an induction at 36+4 and within 10 hours baby was born :) I had gas and air and an injection fairly early in so I could get some sleep. Got wheeled out of labour ward saying it wasn’t that bad 😊

It's the start of your labour, the start of your birth story. It could be straightforward, it could be more tricky but it's your journey to holding your baby and becoming a mummy. Whatever happens, it comes to an end and you have the most gorgeous baby snuggles to make it all worthwhile. Good luck xx

Thanks so much everyone, that’s made me feel much better! I think it’s hard to step away from what you imagined, but I know it’s for the best and I just need to stay in control on focus on the positives. Can’t wait to meet my girl ❤️

Hi all. Thanks again for all of your replies! Baby was born 6th July, and I’m so in love with her! 💓

My induction was an experience to say the least, but I think made negative only by my health issues. I was given the first tablet pessary on Monday afternoon, which did very little to my cervix so had the second and third on the Tuesday, then a sweep and a forth on the Wednesday. This finally got my cervix dilating and contractions starting. Thankfully they let DH stay on the induction ward on the Wednesday night as I was struggling and a bit scared (also surviving on no sleep and lots of vomiting due to a reaction to the pain and/or codine)

We were finally taken to the labour ward in the early hours where I had my waters broken and was then put on the drip which made my contractions fierce and fast, I actually asked them to turn it down as I was only getting around 30 seconds between each and couldn’t catch my breath! I went from taking paracetamol and taking it as it came to requesting the diamorphine 😅

The only thing in my birth plan I really wanted was to push on my knees which I did for the majority and then got the rest of baby girl out on my back (using stirups which were a god send)!

Throughout my heart rate and BP were extremely high and they had to monitor baby with the clip (which I declined at first) and I think if a doctor had been in the room (they were due a minute before she was born to review) there might have been a different outcome. But my midwives were amazing and really advocated for me and made me feel like I was in control.

We were then kept in for 4 more nights as I had high infection markers and they wanted to monitor my BP etc.

I’m not sure how I fully feel about the whole experience and think I’m still processing a lot but my girl is here and healthy and perfect so I would do it all again for her.

Sorry for the long update but wanted to share, happy to answer and induction questions if anyone is in a similar position!

Congratulations! To be honest it probably took me a few months to process and make peace with my induction. Once is managed to catch my breath again! As you say the most important thing is that you’re both ok! Enjoy every minute 💐
