Anyone have v strong braxton hicks after raspberry leaf tea?

I know raspberry leaf tea isn't meant to bring on labour but I'm 32 +3 and started the tea and after one cup I woke up in the middle of the night with very strong braxton hicks worried I was starting 😬 I had a few of these and thankfully they settled down and went away. I'm obviously going to wait till closer to 37 weeks to start drinking it again but has this happened to anyone else?

Is it possible it can tip your body into labour if your body is tethering on ready? Any experiences?

For context This is my second baby, I have extra fluid so my bump is very big and low and baby has dropped into position.

It didn’t affect me like that but that’s what the warnings to wait are about, it sounds like you are sensitive to it.

I read a few places about a lot of people starting at 32 weeks to build it up 😬 but was hard to get a straight answer

Yes I did but I read you shouldn't do it untill full term so 37/38 weeks should be fine 😊 I also ate loads of dates 😂 never want to look at another one ever again

I've never heard of anyone drink raspberry leaf tea that early in pregnancy. I thought it was advised against.
I had 3 cups in my 38th week and delivered at 38+3

Irishwifey · 01/07/2023 00:46

@verabarbleen oh stop they are rotten 😂 how many did you eat a day?

@Beginningless when I googled it I got lots of mixed answers about starting it at 32 and some say later! It's crazy that you started and delivered 3 days later, do you feel it was cos of the tea!? Just shows how strong it is! Or how sensitive some people are to it maybe

@Irishwifey I really have no idea whether that's what made me deliver but I remember the Braxton hicks being strong afterwards!

ginandvomit · 01/07/2023 02:45

Let me start with N=1 isn't scientific proof it is my personal experience, just an anecdote and may be pure coincidence.

I started taking the tea around 35 weeks and delivered breech at 39 (undiagnosed). My contractions were so strong it felt more like an expulsion, there was no pushing required!

MrsMikeDrop · 01/07/2023 03:37

Um it is meant to bring on labour and I'm not sure you should be drinking it that early in your pregnancy. It's literally a tip you get given to bring on labour naturally

LBF2020 · 01/07/2023 04:38

Ask your midwife when you can start drinking it. Mine did mention it, but I can't remember what she said. I'm 35 weeks and want to go to term as I have lots still to do so I'm not going to touch the stuff for a while yet!

ThatFraggle · 01/07/2023 04:41

Why would you follow random internet advice when you have access to healthcare? Some 'natural remedy' sites promote it to bring on miscarriage.

verabarbleen · 03/07/2023 18:29

@Irishwifey 😂 I think in my 40th week I ate about 6 a day it was awful the only thing that I believe helped me was these yoga poses I found on YouTube I think it was called the miles circuit or something like that but I stress not to do it untill you're properly full term! Good luck and congrats!

sleepymama3 · 04/07/2023 15:49

My midwife recommended 36 weeks to the first time mums at my labour and birth class but as I delivered quickly first time, I waited until 37 weeks. And to answer your question, yes, without fail within an hour of drinking it I would get very strong Braxton Hicks. It's rotten stuff!

FictionalCharacter · 04/07/2023 16:26

I can’t remember how many weeks I was when I started drinking it but I wished I hadn’t. I ended up with my twins born 5 weeks prem. Contractions painful but not strong and had to have emergency CS. There’s no way of knowing whether the tea made any difference but if I’d had another pregnancy I wouldn’t have risked it.
