Birth Debrief / Notes

Hi

Had anyone experienced there being no notes from their time in hospital for labour?

I am supposed to be having a debrief and the last I heard from the midwife was that the online notes were very jumbled and she has requested the written copies..

The trust were moving to an online system at the time of delivery... I'm concerned there may actually be no detailed notes. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes - after a case of medical negligence with my first labour.

Did you have any issues?

Yes quite a few - was hoping the notes would explain some of the decisions. Not holding out hope...

I don't know if it's worth talking to Birth Trauma Association? They might be able to help you navigate this Flowers

Yes mine went missing for the 4 years in which I could have sued for medical negligence, suddenly reappeared after the time frame had ended....

Do PPs think the rules should be changed for medical negligence cases to presume the damaged party is correct unless medical notes can be produced to demonstrate otherwise?
Like the way that if you can't prove someone else was driving your car, tough, you get the speeding penalty?

If medical notes go missing on the reg. when negligence cases are being defended....

Yes. The onus should be on the hospital to prove they weren't negligent.

Friend of mine had a procedure once there the surgeon accidentally pierced her bowel. Few days later at home she became gravely ill and sepsis took over.

She was in hospital for almost 6 months - most of that time in ITU and HDU.

The moment she got well and sought to find answers, all notes went missing.
