When did you deliver with polyhydramnios ?

Hey girls I have extra fluid around the baby, I'm currently 32 weeks and feeling huge!

I have a growth scan in two weeks where we'll know more about how baby is growing and how much fluid there is.

Can anyone tell me if they had extra fluid when they delivered and how? Was it section, induction or did they let you go into spontaneous labour?

If you went into labour yourself, did you go early! ?

Everyone and their mother is telling me I won't make the 40 week mark but time will tell I suppose 😌 this is my second baby.

2nd baby I had it, but it was missed at the scan so first I knew was when my waters were broken, I was huge but it was just assumed big baby (they weren't wrong, 9lbs at 38w so could have been a 10lbs+)

I was induced at 38 weeks for other reasons, but I have never seen so much fluid and it just kept coming. Laboured for ~15 hours and ended with an EMCS not connected to polyhydramnios and no one seemed overly concerned about it at that stage (other than the slip risk on the soggy floor).

Induction and waters broken at 38+ weeks. Yeah it's a lot of fluid ...

hiredandsqueak · 28/06/2023 12:14

40 plus 3 my waters broke on my due date in spectacular fashion in the hallway as I laughed with my teenage son and his friends. They had never left so quickly in their lives before.
Spent two days asking them to induce me but they were reluctant because of previous c section even though I'd had VBAC two inductions previously. Would only offer clary sage baths ffs so I went home telling them I'd be back when they were ready to induce. Once on syntocin to get things moving it was all textbook and dd arrived following a straight forward delivery weighing 7lb 8oz

MeinKraft · 28/06/2023 12:15

Went in for induction at 38 weeks, ended up with a section. With polyhydramnios it's hard for the baby to get their head engaged.

annlee3817 · 28/06/2023 12:19

I was induced at 39 weeks, for that plus other reasons, they broke my waters in theatre in case of cord prolapse, all was fine though and I delivered her 5 hours later

Congratulations OP. I was induced for my first - quite close to due date as they were concerned about the poly h. She wasn't really ready to come out. They broke waters and ended up being an emergency c-section, as though I was contracting v regularly, labour wasn't progressing. I was made to lie in one position on back side they could monitor - not sure that helped. Healthy baby. After that was emergency c-sections (planned initially, but went into labour a few days before c-section date, so let me labour for a bit before proceeding - no waters broke, healthy babies).

TheFamousMrEd · 28/06/2023 12:32

I was induced 3 days after my due date, for reasons other than the extra fluid. DS arrived 90mins after my waters broke with no extra intervention other than the original pessary.

Trollfeet · 28/06/2023 12:43

38+4, spontaneous labour. There was sooo much fluid but all went well.

MeinKraft · 28/06/2023 12:44

The relief once you get all that fluid out though. Bet you're peeing every 5 minutes!

BiscuitsandPuffin · 28/06/2023 12:48

40+5 spontaneous labour VBAC after fighting and fighting them to not have a C section which would have been totally unnecessary (I wasn't in UK and there was a very low threshhold for CS in this country). There was LOADS of fluid when my waters broke, it was nothing like the movies, it was a massive tidal wave of this thick creamy stuff and it was still pouring out for about 5 or 6 hours after my waters broke. They picked up polyhydramnios around week 30/31 but the estimated amount of fluid did reduce a bit by the time I went into labour.

Thank you for sharing ladies I'm
Loving hearing how yer births went with this.

My bump is so low and full. I am only 32 weeks but honestly feels like I could pop any day. I Honestly look 2 weeks over due 😬 Baby is right on my bladder and I am peeing non stop 😬

There was so much and what I don't think I realised until afterwards was that I seemed to have retained water everywhere so following the birth I peed an awful lot and was like someone had let the air out of a balloon and just shrank. I left hospital in my normal clothes but within a fortnight they were hanging off of me. I only put on 7lb in weight so with a baby bigger than that and all the extra water I had lost about two stone.

mummymummymummummum · 28/06/2023 12:59

42+1. I was just starting to contract when I went in to be induced. Baby’s head never really engaged, so they had to hold her head down when they broke my waters. That was spectacular! Husband was sent to find more of those absorbent pads - they’d already got more than normal out as well!

Caesarean in the end, and baby required an operation on day 3 and three weeks in NICU because she had a birth defect (that was the cause for the polyhydramnios). No lasting issues.. She will be starting Year 3 in September 🥹

Sorry - not good news for you in terms of delivery date, but I think I’m the exception! Haven’t come across many that went so late with polyhydramnios! My other baby was also evicted at over 42 weeks - I just take a long time to grow babies 😅

EllaDisenchanted · 28/06/2023 13:46

38 weeks - induced. Induced partially because of severe SPD, antenatal depression, and polyH was tipping point.

'Let you' 🥴

'Let you' 🥴

I mean "let you to Your own devices, let you be etc" not permission. Clearly I'm asking what the medical advice was in this situation. I thought it was always a given that this is all just advice, weather you choose to accept it is clearly your own decision. 🤷‍♀️ Your comment feels snarky though, what's your point? 🤷‍♀️

31+3 they drained 2l at 18 weeks but we had other issues as well - I'd twins and ttts.
