Insurance for home births

Home birth midwives are having their insurance taken away at end of march here in ireland, and I know that this has been the case in the UK for the past few years. I am due mid april booked in for my second home birth, but my hubby would like to have some sort of cover for the midwife and protect us in case of anything going wrong during delivery, as she will have no personal indemnity insurance. does any one know of any parents who have managed to insure their births either here or in the UK and what companies might offer this?

thanks

we have success on a national level after a national media campaign and huge letter writing campaign, see link for today's article in the Irish Independent

SweetishP - Thank you for keeping information here, wow it is a big relief to see it in the press. I saw my IM today and she said that it was not yet official but that 6 month extention had been arranged. She was to get a letter in the post confirming it, they are not confirming it by email apparently. She also said she expects me to have this baby in the next couple of weeks.... I am still in denial thinking that I have a few weeks left to go! Still an Easter baby would be nice. How are you doing?

Final update to all, WE HAVE HAD COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!!! The irish nurses org have negotiated and confirmed a 6 month interim extension to independent midwives insurance after which hte HSE (NHS equivalent) will take them in under their own insurance scheme. Minister for Health and head of HSE in charge of over seeing National Homebirth Scheme are committed to this time frame. HSE have acknowledged if it wasn't for the pressure from us mums it wouldn't have happened Hurrah for us! Our home births are now guaranteed! and insured!!!!!
